SEAT BELT WARNING SYSTEM(w/ Occupant Classification System) OPERATION CHECK

  1. INSPECT DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT

    Tip:

    The front seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly is used for both the driver side seat and front passenger side seat.

    1. Turn the power switch on (IG).

    2. When the driver side seat belt is not fastened, check that the front seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinks for 6 seconds.

    3. After 1.8 seconds, check that the front seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly changes from blinking to illuminated.

    4. Lift up the vehicle using a swing arm type lift.

    5. Start the hybrid control system.

    6. When the driver side seat belt is not fastened, the shift lever is in any position other than P and the parking brake is released, check that the front seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinks.

    7. When the driver side seat belt is not fastened and the vehicle is driven at approximately 20 km/h (12 mph) or more, check that the front seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinks.

      After 120 seconds, check that the front seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly changes from blinking to illuminated.

    8. Starting from (f) with the front seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinking, when the shift lever is moved to P, check that the front seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly changes from blinking to illuminated.

    9. Starting from (f) with the front seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinking, when the parking brake is applied, check that the front seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly changes from blinking to illuminated.

    10. Starting from (f) with the front seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinking, when the driver side seat belt is fastened, check that the front seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly turns off.

  2. INSPECT FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT

    Tip:

    The front seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly is used for both the driver side seat and front passenger side seat.

    1. Place a weight of 20 kg (44.0 lb) on the front passenger seat.

      Note:

      Place the weight on the seat cushion and allow it to come into contact with the seatback.

    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).

    3. Fasten the driver side seat belt.

    4. When the front passenger side seat belt is not fastened with the front passenger seat occupied, check that the front seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinks for 6 seconds.

      After 1.8 seconds, check that the front seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly changes from blinking to illuminated.

    5. Lift up the vehicle using a swing arm type lift.

    6. Start the hybrid control system.

    7. When the front passenger side seat belt is not fastened, the shift lever is in any position other than P and the parking brake is released, check that the front seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinks.

    8. When the front passenger side seat belt is not fastened and the vehicle is driven at approximately 20 km/h (12 mph) or more, check that the front seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinks.

      After 120 seconds, check that the front seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly changes from blinking to illuminated.

    9. Starting from (g) with the front seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinking, the front passenger side seat belt not fastened and the weight on the front passenger seat, check that the front seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly turns off when the weight is removed from the front passenger seat.

    10. Starting from (g) with the front seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly blinking, when the front passenger side seat belt is fastened, check that the front seat belt warning light on the combination meter assembly turns off.

  3. INSPECT REAR SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT

    Tip:

    The rear seat belt warning light on the telltale light assembly is used for rear seat.

    1. Turn the power switch off.

    2. Open and then close either rear door.

    3. Turn the power switch on (IG).

    4. When a rear door is opened and closed (the rear door courtesy light switch turns on and off) and a rear seat belt is fastened or unfastened, check that the rear seat belt warning light in the telltale light assembly changes to inform the driver of the current condition of the rear seat belts.

    5. After 34 seconds, check that the rear seat belt warning light on the telltale light assembly turns off.

    6. When one of the rear seat belts is unfastened from being fastened, check that the rear seat belt warning light on the telltale light assembly illuminates.

  4. INSPECT SEAT BELT WARNING BUZZER

    Tip:

    The seat belt warning buzzer can be customized. Make sure that this function is ON.

    1. Place a weight of 20 kg (44.0 lb) on the front passenger seat.

      Note:

      Place the weight on the seat cushion and do not allow it to come into contact with the seatback.

    2. Lift up the vehicle using a swing arm type lift.

    3. Start the hybrid control system.

    4. Open and close a rear door (the rear door courtesy light switch turns on and off).

    5. Check that the seat belt warning buzzer in the combination meter assembly sounds at an interval of 1.2 second for 30 seconds.

    6. After the seat belt warning buzzer has been sounding for 30 seconds at an interval of 1.2 second, check that the seat belt warning buzzer in the combination meter assembly sounds at an interval of 0.4 second for 90 seconds.

    7. Check that the seat belt warning buzzer in the combination meter assembly stops 120 seconds after it started sounding at an interval of 1.2 second.

    8. After the buzzer has stopped, turn the ignition switch off and then start the engine again. Drive the vehicle at approximately 20 km/h (12 mph) or more while the driver side seat belt, front passenger side seat belt or a rear seat belt is not fastened, and check that the buzzer sounds again.

    9. Rear Seat Belt Warning System:

      After the buzzer stops, open and close a rear door.

      Then drive the vehicle at approximately 20 km/h (12.5 mph) or more while a rear seat belt is not fastened and check that the buzzer sounds again.

    10. After the buzzer has stopped, fasten the driver and front passenger side seat belt. Drive the vehicle at approximately 20 km/h (12 mph) or more and unfasten the driver side seat belt, front passenger side seat belt or rear seat belt and check that the buzzer sounds again.

    11. After the buzzer has stopped, stop the vehicle, move the shift lever to R, and then move it to D. Drive the vehicle at approximately 20 km/h (12 mph) or more, and check that the buzzer sounds again.
