AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY (for 1GR-FE) REMOVAL


  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

    Note

    When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Click here.

  2. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY

    1. Twist the shift lever knob in the direction indicated by the arrow and remove it.

  3. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE HOLE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

    1. Detach the 4 claws and remove the parking brake hole cover.

  4. REMOVE UPPER CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. Detach the 12 claws and remove the upper console panel.

      Note

      Be careful not to damage the instrument panel and console box with the claws of the upper console panel.

  5. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY

    *3 Clip

    1. Remove the 4 screws and 2 bolts.

    2. Using a clip remover, remove the 2 clips and console box.

  6. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER BOOT ASSEMBLY

      Remove the 4 screws and shift lever boot.

  7. REMOVE TRANSFER HIGH AND LOW SHIFT LEVER ASSEMBLY


    1. Fold back the transfer front drive shift boot.

    2. A01DXRL

      Using needle-nose pliers, remove the snap ring and pull out the shift lever.

      Tech Tips

      Move the transfer shift lever to the H4 position.

  8. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER

  9. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER

  10. REMOVE NO. 3 ENGINE UNDER COVER

  11. DISCONNECT HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR


    1. Disconnect the 2 sensor connectors.

  12. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE


    1. Remove the exhaust pipe assembly Click here.

  13. REMOVE FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY


    1. for TSAM Made:

      Remove the front propeller shaft assembly Click here.

    2. for TMT Made:

      Remove the front propeller shaft assembly Click here.

  14. REMOVE PROPELLER SHAFT WITH CENTER BEARING ASSEMBLY


    1. for TSAM Made:

      Remove the propeller shaft with center bearing assembly Click here.

    2. for TMT Made:

      Remove the propeller shaft with center bearing assembly Click here.

  15. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID


    1. Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain ATF.

    2. Install a new gasket and the drain plug.

      Torque:
      20 N*m  { 204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf }

  16. REMOVE MANIFOLD STAY

    1. Remove the 3 bolts and manifold stay.

  17. REMOVE NO. 2 MANIFOLD STAY

    1. Remove the 3 bolts and manifold stay.

  18. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH


    1. Remove the 6 nuts, exhaust manifold and gasket.

  19. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY RH


    1. Remove the 6 nuts, exhaust manifold and gasket.

  20. DISCONNECT OIL COOLER TUBE

      Using a union nut wrench, disconnect the outlet tube and inlet oil cooler tube.

    2. A01E2Z9

      Remove the 2 bolts and 2 clamps.

  21. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY

      Remove the nut and disconnect the control cable.

    2. Remove the clip and disconnect the control cable.

  22. REMOVE NO. 1 TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE BRACKET

      Remove the 2 bolts and control cable bracket from the transmission.

  23. SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY

      Support the transmission with a transmission jack.

  24. REMOVE NO. 3 FRAME CROSSMEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Remove the 4 set bolts of the rear No. 1 engine mounting insulator.

    2. Remove the 4 nuts, 4 bolts and frame crossmember.

  25. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR

    1. Remove the 4 bolts and rear No. 1 engine mounting insulator from the automatic transmission.

  26. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS


    1. A01DWVQ

      Remove the nut and disconnect the ground cable.

    2. A01DXZ6

      Tilt the transmission downward.

      Note

      Make sure the cooling fan does not contact the fan shroud.

    3. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.

    4. Disconnect the transmission wire connector.

    5. Disconnect the 2 speed sensor connectors.

    6. Disconnect the No. 1 indicator switch connector.

    7. Disconnect the No. 2 indicator switch connector.

    8. Disconnect the No. 3 indicator switch connector.

    9. Disconnect the speed sensor connector.

    10. Detach the 7 wire harness clamps.

  27. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY


    1. for 1.4 kW Type:

      Remove the starter assembly Click here.

    2. for 1.6 kW Type:

      Remove the starter assembly Click here.

  28. REMOVE FLYWHEEL HOUSING SIDE COVER

    1. Remove the flywheel housing side cover from the cylinder block.

  29. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY

      Turn the crankshaft to gain access to each bolt.

    2. Hold the crankshaft pulley bolt with a wrench and remove the 6 torque converter clutch setting bolts.

    3. A01E2YV

      Remove the 9 bolts.

    4. Remove the automatic transmission assembly.

  30. REMOVE TRANSFER ASSEMBLY


    1. Remove the transfer assembly Click here.

  31. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY


    1. Remove the torque converter clutch assembly from the automatic transmission assembly.
