SFI SYSTEM INITIALIZATION

Tip:

  • Perform the idle learning after the ECM has been replaced.

  • Perform the electronic throttle learning and idle learning after the throttle body with motor assembly has been cleaned, installed or replaced.

  1. IDLE LEARNING (WHEN THROTTLE BODY WITH MOTOR ASSEMBLY HAS BEEN CLEANED, INSTALLED OR REPLACED)

    1. Perform the electronic throttle learning.*

    2. Start the engine and warm it up until the engine coolant temperature is 80°C (176°F) or higher.

    3. After the engine is warmed up, allow it to idle for 5 minutes with the air conditioning and all accessories off.

    4. Confirm that the idle speed is within the specified range.

      800 to 900 rpm
      Tip:

      • Be sure to perform this step with all accessories off.

      • Make sure that the shift lever is in neutral.

  2. CAUTION:

    When performing the confirmation driving pattern, obey all speed limits and traffic laws.

    IDLE LEARNING (WHEN ECM HAS BEEN REPLACED)

    1. Start the engine.

    2. Warm up the engine (engine coolant temperature is 80°C (176°F) or higher, air conditioning and all accessories are off) [A].

    3. Drive the vehicle at 10 km/h (6 mph) or more [B].

    4. Idle the engine for 20 seconds or more [C].

    5. Repeat steps [B] and [C], and check that the idle speed is within the specified range [D].

      800 to 900 rpm
      Tip:

      • Be sure to perform this step with all accessories off.

      • Make sure that the shift lever is in neutral.

      • If the idle speed is still out of the specified range, repeat steps [B] and [C] until the idle speed is within the specified range [E].

  3. *: PERFORM ELECTRONIC THROTTLE LEARNING

    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    4. Turn the GTS on.

    5. Clear the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Clear DTCs

    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / Electric Throttle Learning.

    7. Confirm that the initialization conditions displayed on the GTS screen are satisfied and press ENTER.

    8. Check that "Learning has completed" is displayed on the GTS screen.

      Tip:

      Electronic throttle learning will not be completed if the battery voltage is low or if the voltage drops momentarily, even though the battery voltage is 10 V or higher with the ignition switch is ON.
