CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSAXLE SYSTEM(for 8NR-FTS) INITIALIZATION

Note:
  • Performing Reset Memory will clear the learned values of the yaw rate and acceleration sensor (Deceleration Sensor Zero Point Calibration) and the CVT oil pressure (CVT Oil Pressure Calibration). Make sure to perform Reset Memory, Deceleration Sensor Zero Point Calibration, and CVT Oil Pressure Calibration if any of the parts in the following table have been replaced.

    Replaced Part

    • Continuously variable transaxle assembly

    • ECM

    • Oil pressure sensor

    • Airbag sensor assembly (Yaw rate and acceleration sensor)

  • After performing Reset Memory, always perform Deceleration Sensor Zero Point Calibration first, and then CVT Oil Pressure Calibration.

  1. PERFORM RESET MEMORY

    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Move the shift lever to P and apply the parking brake.

    3. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

      Note:

      Do not start the engine.

    5. Turn the GTS on.

    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Transmission / Utility / Reset Memory.

      Powertrain > Transmission > Utility

      Tester Display

      Reset Memory

      Note:
      • Make sure the shift lever is in P.

      • Make sure that the engine is stopped. To prevent idling vibrations, do not start the engine.

      • Make sure that the ignition switch is ON.

  2. PERFORM DECELERATION SENSOR ZERO CALIBRATION

    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON and wait at least 2 seconds.

    2. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / Deceleration Sensor Zero Point Calibration.

      Powertrain > Engine > Utility

      Tester Display

      Deceleration Sensor Zero Point Calibration

      Note:

Keep the vehicle stopped, level and stable during calibration (Inclination: 0 +/- 0.25°).

      Tip:
      • When "Complete" is displayed on the screen, Deceleration Sensor Zero Point Calibration is complete.

      • If "Error" is displayed on the screen and DTC P158900 is output, there may be a malfunction in the airbag sensor assembly (yaw rate and acceleration sensor) circuit.

      • Shaking or vibrating the vehicle during Deceleration Sensor Zero Point Calibration may cancel calibration. If "Error" is displayed on the screen and DTC P158900 is not output, perform calibration again.

  3. PERFORM CVT OIL PRESSURE CALIBRATION

    1. Turn the ignition switch off and wait at least 30 seconds.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and wait at least 2 seconds.

      Note:

      Do not start the engine.

      Tip:

CVT Oil Pressure Sensor Zero Point Calibration is performed when the ignition switch is turned ON (engine stopped). However, CVT Oil Pressure Sensor Zero Point Calibration will not be performed under the following conditions:

      • Oil pressure sensor value is 0.065 MPa (0.663 kgf/cm2, 9.43 psi) or more.

      • CVT oil temperature is 0°C (32°F) or less or 120°C (248°F) or more.

    3. Start the engine and wait at least 5 seconds.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Transmission / Utility / CVT Oil Pressure Calibration.

      Powertrain > Transmission > Utility

      Tester Display

      CVT Oil Pressure Calibration

      Tip:
      • During CVT Oil Pressure Calibration, the engine idle speed will increase.

      • When "Complete" is displayed on the screen, CVT Oil Pressure Calibration is complete.

      • The learned values cannot be cleared by only disconnecting and reconnecting the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

  4. BLEED AIR FROM OIL PUMP WITH MOTOR ASSEMBLY

    Note:

When replacing the CVT fluid, make sure to bleed the air from the oil pump with motor assembly (continuously variable transaxle assembly).

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Stop and Start / Utility / Oil Pump Air Bleeding.

Powertrain > Stop and Start > Utility

      Tester Display

      Oil Pump Air Bleeding

  5. PERFORM ATF THERMAL DEGRADATION ESTIMATE RESET

    Note:

If either of the following conditions is met, perform ATF Thermal Degradation Estimate Reset:

    • The CVT fluid has been replaced.

      Tip:

If 50000 or more is displayed for the Data List item "ATF Thermal Degradation Estimate", thermal degradation of the CVT fluid is suspected. Perform ATF Thermal Degradation Estimate Reset after replacing the CVT fluid.

    • Approximately 50% or more of the CVT fluid has been replaced during a repair of the transaxle or a similar operation.

    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    3. With the shift lever in P, turn the ignition switch to ON.

      Note:

      Do not start the engine.

    4. Turn the GTS on.

    5. Enter the following menu: Powertrain / Transmission / Utility / ATF Thermal Degradation Estimate Reset.

      Powertrain > Transmission > Utility

      Tester Display

      ATF Thermal Degradation Estimate Reset

    6. According to the display on the GTS, initialize the estimated thermal degradation value.
