OUTLINE
The power back door system enables the back door to be opened and closed automatically by a motor in accordance with signals from the power back door switch, the back door opener switch assembly or power back door button on an electrical key transmitter sub-assembly. In addition, a back door control switch has been provided on the back door for convenience.
The hands free power back door has been used depending on the model. Even when both hands are full, users can open or close the back door without physically touching it by using their feet.
The reserve lock function (back door close and lock) enables the back door to be closed and automatically locked by pressing the power back door close and lock switch on the back door jamb.
A spindle type power back door is used to achieve improved rearward visibility. Also, the user can set the opening angle of the back door in the preferences. For example, if the garage has a low ceiling, the opening angle of the back door can be set not to hit the ceiling.
This system is controlled by the power back door ECU.
PRECAUTION
Precautions for Hands Free Power Back Door
In the following situations, the power back door system may operate unintentionally if the electrical transmitter key sub-assembly is near or within the back door exterior detection area:
When a large amount of water is applied to the kick door control sensor assembly, such as when in heavy rain.
When water is applied to the kick door control sensor assembly, such as when washing the vehicle.
When dirt, etc. is wiped off the rear bumper.
When a small animal suddenly enters the area below the rear bumper.
When trying to remove an object from below the rear bumper.
When removing snow, etc. from below the rear bumper (such as when using a snow shovel).
In the following situations, the power back door system may not operate normally:
When the rear bumper is strongly kicked.
When there are electrical waves present that interfere with communication between the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly and vehicle.
When a device which emits radio waves which are near the same frequency as the kick door control sensor assembly is near the vehicle.
When a large amount of water is applied to the kick door control sensor assembly, such as when in heavy rain.
When water is applied to the kick door control sensor assembly, such as when washing the vehicle.
When mud, snow, ice, etc. is attached to the rear bumper.
When the vehicle has been parked for a while near objects that move and contact the rear bumper, such as tall grass or trees.
