REAR LEAF SPRING(for 4WD and Pre-Runner) INSTALLATION

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.

  • The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

PROCEDURE


  1. INSTALL REAR LEAF SPRING ASSEMBLY LH


    1. Install the rear leaf spring assembly LH to the vehicle body.

  2. INSTALL REAR UPPER SPRING SHACKLE BUSH


    1. Install 2 new rear upper spring shackle bushes to the vehicle frame.

  3. INSTALL NO. 2 REAR SPRING SHACKLE SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. Install the No. 2 rear spring shackle sub-assembly to the rear leaf spring assembly LH and vehicle frame.

  4. TEMPORARILY INSTALL SPRING SHACKLE INNER PLATE

      *a Bottom of Vehicle

      Temporarily install the spring shackle inner plate to the No. 2 rear spring shackle sub-assembly with the 2 washers and 2 nuts shown in the illustration.

      Tech Tips

      After stabilizing the suspension, tighten the nuts.

  5. TEMPORARILY INSTALL REAR LEAF SPRING PIN BOLT


    1. Temporarily install the rear leaf spring pin bolt with the washer and nut.

      Tech Tips


      • The pin bolt can be installed from either side of the spring.

      • After stabilizing the suspension, tighten the nut.

  6. TEMPORARILY INSTALL REAR SPRING U BOLT


    1. Temporarily install the spring U bolt seat sub-assembly and rear spring bumper with the 2 rear spring U bolts, 4 washers and 4 nuts.

      Tech Tips

      When tightening the U bolts, tighten the nuts in diagonal pairs.

  7. INSTALL REAR SHOCK ABSORBER ASSEMBLY LH

  8. CONNECT NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY


    1. Connect the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly with the bolt.

      Torque:
      14 N*m  { 143 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf }

  9. STABILIZE SUSPENSION

  10. TIGHTEN SPRING SHACKLE INNER PLATE


    1. Tighten the spring shackle inner plate with the 2 nuts.

      Torque:
      60 N*m  { 612 kgf*cm, 44 ft.*lbf }

  11. TIGHTEN REAR SPRING PIN BOLT


    1. Tighten the rear spring pin nut.

      Torque:
      120 N*m  { 1224 kgf*cm, 89 ft.*lbf }

  12. TIGHTEN SPRING U BOLT SEAT SUB-ASSEMBLY LH


    1. Tighten the set nut.

      Torque:
      68 N*m  { 693 kgf*cm, 50 ft.*lbf }

  13. INSTALL REAR WHEEL
