FRONT UPPER SUSPENSION ARM (for 4WD and Pre-Runner) INSTALLATION

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.

  • The procedure listed below is for the LH side.


  1. INSTALL FRONT UPPER BALL JOINT


    1. A01DZ7GE01

      Using SST and a press, press in a new upper ball joint.

      SST
      09612-30012
      09223-00010

    2. Using a snap ring expander, install a new snap ring.

      Note

      Make sure the snap ring is securely installed in the groove.

  2. INSTALL UPPER BALL JOINT DUST COVER

      Text in Illustration
      *1 MP grease No. 2

      Pack the upper arm ball joint with MP grease No. 2.

      Grease capacity
      8.0 g (0.282 oz.)

    2. Apply MP grease No. 2 to the locations shown in the illustration.

      Note

      Do not apply MP grease No. 2 to the tapered or threaded parts of the ball joint.

    3. Install a new dust cover to the upper arm.

    4. Install a new dust cover set ring.

  3. INSTALL FRONT UPPER ARM BUSH


    1. A01DY3YE01

      Using SST and a press, press in a new upper arm bush.

  4. TEMPORARILY INSTALL FRONT UPPER SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY LH

    *1 Nut

    1. Temporarily install the upper arm and 2 retainers with the bolt and nut.

      Tech Tips

      Fix the nut in place and temporarily install the bolt.

    2. Install the upper arm to the steering knuckle with the nut.

      Torque:
      110 N*m  { 1122 kgf*cm, 81 ft.*lbf }

    3. Install a new clip.

  5. CONNECT FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY LH


    1. Connect the stabilizer link to the steering knuckle with the nut.

      Torque:
      70 N*m  { 714 kgf*cm, 52 ft.*lbf }

      Tech Tips

      If the ball joint turns together with the nut, use a 6 mm hexagon wrench to hold the stud in place.

  6. CONNECT FRONT SPEED SENSOR LH (w/ ABS)


    1. Install the 2 bolts and connect the speed sensor wire.

      Torque:
      32 N*m  { 326 kgf*cm, 24 ft.*lbf }

  7. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL


    1. Install the front wheel.

      Torque:
      105 N*m  { 1071 kgf*cm, 77 ft.*lbf }

  8. STABILIZE SUSPENSION


    1. Lower the vehicle.

    2. Press down on the vehicle several times to stabilize the suspension.

  9. TIGHTEN FRONT UPPER SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY LH


    1. Tighten the bolt of the upper arm.

      Torque:
      115 N*m  { 1173 kgf*cm, 85 ft.*lbf }

      Note

      Do not tighten the nut.

  10. INSPECT AND ADJUST FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT
