CAMSHAFT REMOVAL

PROCEDURE

  1. REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD

  2. SEPARATE ENGINE WIRE

    1. Separate the engine wire from the cylinder head cover sub-assembly.

  3. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

  4. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD GASKET

  5. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR ASSEMBLY

      Cylinder Head Cover Sub-assembly Bolt

      SST Bolt

      Place SST on the cylinder head sub-assembly.

      Tip:
      • Check that the flat portion (A) of the camshaft and No. 2 camshaft are positioned as shown in the illustration.

      • Check that SST is securely installed to the flat portion (A) of the camshaft and No. 2 camshaft.

      • Check that there is no gap between SST and the cylinder head sub-assembly.

    2. Using 2 cylinder head cover sub-assembly bolts, secure SST.

    3. Using a hexagon wrench, tighten the SST bolt.

      Remove the the bolt and camshaft timing gear assembly.

  6. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING EXHAUST GEAR ASSEMBLY

      Remove the bolt and camshaft timing exhaust gear assembly.

  7. REMOVE CAMSHAFT

    1. Remove the SST.

      No. 1 Camshaft Bearing Cap

      No. 2 Camshaft Bearing Cap

      Remove the 16 bolts in the order shown in the illustration.

    3. Remove the No. 1 camshaft bearing cap and No. 2 camshaft bearing caps.

      Remove the camshaft.

  8. REMOVE NO. 2 CAMSHAFT

    1. A327654

      Remove the No. 2 camshaft.

    2. Using a piece of string or equivalent, secure the timing belt to prevent it from dropping.
