POWER STEERING SYSTEM PRECAUTION

  1. PRECAUTION FOR DISCONNECTING CABLE FROM NEGATIVE AUXILIARY BATTERY TERMINAL

    Note

    When disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, initialize the following systems after the cable is reconnected.

  2. HANDLING PRECAUTIONS FOR SRS AIRBAG SYSTEM

    1. This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). Failure to carry out service operations in the correct sequence could cause the SRS to unexpectedly deploy during servicing. This may cause a serious accident.

  3. PRECAUTIONS FOR REMOVAL, INSTALLATION AND REPLACEMENT OF ELECTRONIC MOTOR POWER STEERING COMPONENTS

    1. Be sure to align the front wheels straight ahead when removing and installing the power steering gear assembly.

    2. When disconnecting the steering intermediate shaft assembly, be sure to place matchmarks before starting the operation.

    3. After replacing the power steering ECU assembly, perform assist map writing Click here.

  4. HANDLING PRECAUTION

    1. When handling the electronic parts:

      1. Avoid any impact to electronic parts such as ECUs and relays. Replace them with new ones if dropped or subjected to a severe impact.

      2. Do not expose any electronic parts to high temperatures or humidity.

      3. Do not touch the connector terminals in order to prevent deformation or malfunctions due to static electricity.

    2. When handling the power steering ECU assembly:

      1. When the power steering ECU assembly has been replaced with a new one, perform assist map writing Click here.

    3. When disconnecting and reconnecting the connectors:

      1. Before disconnecting the connectors related to the power steering system, turn the power switch on (IG), center the steering wheel, turn the power switch off, and then disconnect the connectors.

      2. Before reconnecting the connectors related to the power steering system, ensure that the power switch is off. Then center the steering wheel and turn the power switch on (IG).

        Note

        Do not turn the power switch on (IG) when the steering wheel is not centered.

  5. PRECAUTIONS FOR CAN COMMUNICATION

    1. CAN communication lines are used to receive information from the power management control ECU and the brake booster with master cylinder assembly, and to transmit warnings to the combination meter assembly.

      When problems are detected in the CAN communication lines, CAN communication DTCs are stored.

    2. Perform troubleshooting for communication problems when CAN communication DTCs are output. Be sure to start troubleshooting the power steering system after confirming that the CAN communication system is normal.

    3. Since the CAN communication lines each have their own length and route, they cannot be repaired temporarily with a bypass wire, etc.
