PRE-COLLISION SYSTEM(for Stereo Camera Type)

  1. OPERATING CONDITION

    1. Front cross traffic alert operates when all of the following conditions are met.

      • The pre-collision system is turned on and warning alert is turned on in the multi-information display setting screen

      • The shift position is not P or R

      • The vehicle speed is approximately 15 km/h (9 mph) or less when entering an intersection

      • A crossing vehicle approaches the vehicle at a speed of approximately 10 km/h to 60 km/h (6 mph to 37 mph)

      • There are no vehicles ahead

      • The accelerator pedal is not being firmly depressed

      • The brake pedal is not being firmly depressed

  2. SYSTEM CONTROL

    1. The front cross traffic alert detects the approach of crossing vehicles when the vehicle enters an intersection at a low speed, based on detection information from the front side radar sensor. The driver is alerted of this information at two levels: as a "warning alert" and as "depression stopping support".

    2. The "warning alert" shows a warning on the headup display and multi display* to alert the driver that a crossing vehicle is approaching.

      Tech Tips

*: Only when the panoramic view monitor screen is displayed.

    3. "Depression stopping support" displays a warning on the multi-information display and sounds a buzzer to alert the driver and urge the driver to decelerate, when the driver attempts to drive the vehicle forward regardless of whether a crossing vehicle is approaching.

    4. The "warning alert" displays an animation on the large headup display to show from which direction crossing vehicles are approaching, providing intuitive and easily understood information to the driver.

    5. Under the following conditions, the front cross traffic alert could operate even if no vehicle would be detected.

      • When the vehicle approaches structures on the side of the road (such as guardrails, signs, utility poles, streetlights, trees, grass or walls)

      • When driving close to locations generating strong electrical waves or noise, such as a TV tower, radio station or electric power plant

      • When slipping past a vehicle, etc. parked on the road from the side

      • When a vehicle or pedestrian crosses far from the vehicle

      • When a vehicle or pedestrian is moving in a parking lot, etc. on the side of the lane of the vehicle

      • When a bicycle or pedestrian is traveling on a sidewalk

      • When a vehicle or pedestrian is moving away from the vehicle

      • When a crossing vehicle decelerates and stops

      • When a crossing vehicle turns right or left directly in front of the vehicle

      • When a pedestrian approaches the vehicle

      • When an oncoming vehicle turns right or left

      • When the vehicle passes through an intersection ahead of a crossing vehicle

      • When a crossing vehicle approaches while waiting for a signal

      • When there is a metal object or another obstacle that easily reflects radio waves in the surrounding area (such as a vehicle, guardrail, wall or sign)

      • When there is a crossing vehicle that is cornering (such as turning right or left) [Case]

      • When a vehicle approaches and then passes from the front

      • When a vehicle approaches and then overtakes from the rear

      • When the vehicle is traveling alongside a vehicle or pedestrian

      • When a vehicle or pedestrian approaches the side of the vehicle

      Tech Tips

Although the front cross traffic alert detects crossing vehicles, it may recognize pedestrians as targets for detection and the system may operate, depending on the situation.
