PRE-COLLISION SYSTEM(for Stereo Camera Type)

  1. OPERATING CONDITION

    1. The intuitive pedestrian detection alert operates when the following conditions are met and a pedestrian is detected in front of the vehicle.

      • The pre-collision system is normal

      • The pre-collision system is on

      • The intuitive pedestrian detection alert is on

      • The vehicle speed is between approximately 30 km/h and 65 km/h (20 mph and 40 mph)

    2. The intuitive pedestrian detection alert does not operate in the following situations.

      • While driving the vehicle a short time after connecting/disconnected the auxiliary battery terminal

      • The shift position is R

      • The PCS warning light is blinking or illuminated

      • The intuitive pedestrian detection alert is off

      • The headup display is off

  2. SYSTEM CONTROL

    1. The intuitive pedestrian detection alert detects pedestrians in front of the vehicle. If the driving support ECU assembly determines that there is high possibility of colliding with the pedestrian unless the driver operates the vehicle to avoid the pedestrian first, a warning is shown on the headup display to alert the driver.

    2. The intuitive pedestrian detection alert displays an animation showing the position of the pedestrian on the large headup display, providing intuitive and easily understood information to the driver.

    3. An object recognition camera equipped with 2 cameras is used to detect pedestrians. The system operates in combination with solid object detection and pedestrian identification provided through pattern recognition, resulting in highly accurate recognition of pedestrians.

      Tech Tips

      • The operation range may vary depending on the warning sensitivity level that is set.

      • In the following situations, the system determines that it has detected something and the intuitive pedestrian detection alert may operate.

        • Pedestrians on sidewalks

        • Bicycles and motorcycles

        • When the vehicle stability changes, such as when there are undulations or bumps on the road surface

        • When driving close to locations generating strong electrical waves or noise, such as a TV tower, radio station or electric power plant

        • When the vehicle approaches a structure that closely resembles the shape of a pedestrian and is located on the side of the road or at the entry to a curve (utility pole, tree, pole, etc.)

        • Road surface paint, wall surfaces, road medians, signs, etc.
