BRAKE CONTROL SYSTEM

  1. SYSTEM CONTROL

    1. The skid control ECU assembly determines if the driver is emergency braking based on the speed and force at which the brake pedal is depressed. If emergency braking is determined, the brake force is increased.

      1. Brake Assist

        • Although a driver may quickly depress the brake pedal when emergency braking is required, they may not be able to depress the brake pedal with sufficient force. (a)

Furthermore, if they cannot sustain the brake pedal depression force, the brake force will degrade. (b)

        • When it is determined that the driver is emergency braking based on the speed at which they depressed the brake pedal and the brake pedal is not being depressed with sufficient force, brake assist operates to supplement the braking force. (c)

        • In order to reduce driver discomfort, brake assist reduces the braking force in accordance with the reduction in brake pedal depression force. (d)

        • When the vehicle is fully loaded such as with passengers, it may be necessary to use more brake force than usual. (e)

In this case, brake assist may operate even though emergency braking is not being performed. (f)
