ROAD SIGN ASSIST SYSTEM

  1. OUTLINE

    1. The Road Sign Assist (RSA) system is used. The system recognizes traffic signs using the camera sensor (forward recognition camera) and provides information to the driver via the multi-information display and headup display*1.

    2. The RSA system can recognize various traffic signs*2 of different countries. By informing the driver of the speed limit as it changes while driving within or across borders, it makes it easier for the driver to be aware of different speed limits, assisting safe driving.

  2. PRECAUTION

    1. General Handling Precautions

      1. The RSA system is a system which supports the driver by providing information from traffic signs to the driver. The RSA system does not serve as a replacement for a driver's vision or awareness. It is necessary for the driver to always pay attention to the traffic conditions and applicable rules while driving.

      2. The RSA system may not correctly recognize traffic signs if they are dirty, bent or blocked by an object. It is necessary for the driver to confirm all traffic signs while driving.

      3. When the unit of speed being used or the direction of traffic changes, it may take some time for the system to perform learning for these changes. Until the learning is complete, the system may not detect the correct unit of speed or the direction of traffic and may subsequently display incorrect information. It is necessary for the driver to always pay attention to the traffic conditions and applicable rules while driving.

      4. The system may not detect traffic signs under the following conditions:

        • The camera sensor is misaligned due to a strong impact being applied to the sensor, etc.

        • Dirt, snow, stickers, etc. are on the windshield near the camera sensor.

          B003IY7
        • In inclement weather such as heavy rain, fog, snow or sand storms.

          B003ISH
        • Light from an oncoming vehicle, the sun, etc. enters the camera sensor.

          B003I9S
        • The sign is dirty, faded, tilted or bent, and if an electronic sign, the contrast is poor.

          B003INB
        • All or part of the sign is hidden by the leaves of a tree, a pole, etc.

          B003I5O
        • The sign is only visible to the camera sensor for a short amount of time.

          B003I9U
        • The driving scene (turning, lane change, etc.) is judged incorrectly.

      5. The system may incorrectly recognize traffic signs under the following conditions:

        • Side road speed signs may be detected and displayed (if positioned in sight of the camera sensor) while the vehicle is traveling on the main road.

        • Even if it is a sign not appropriate for the currently traveled lane, such a sign exists directly after a freeway branches, or in an adjacent lane just before merging.

          B003ILL
        • Stickers are attached to the rear of the preceding vehicle.

          B003IHH
        • A sign resembling a system compatible sign is recognized.

          B003I28
        • The vehicle is driven in a country with a different direction of traffic.

          B003I2O
        • Roundabout exit road speed signs may be detected and displayed (if positioned in sight of the camera sensor) while traveling on a roundabout.

    2. Precautions for Forward Recognition Camera

      1. Keep the windshield glass clean. If dirt, snow or ice is on the windshield glass, the camera sensor may not operate correctly.

      2. Do not apply a sticker, etc. to the area of the windshield glass around the camera sensor.

      3. Do not splash liquid on the camera sensor.

      4. Do not flash a strong light source, such as an LED flashlight, on the camera sensor.

      5. Do not apply film to the windshield glass.

      6. Do not install an antenna in front of the camera sensor.

      7. If the windshield glass fogs up, turn on the defogger to clear condensation. The windshield glass easily fogs up when the heater is set to foot mode and this may affect the performance of the camera sensor.

      8. Do not damage the camera lens or allow it become dirty. When cleaning the inner surface of the windshield glass, do not allow cleaning agent to contact the camera lens. Do not touch the camera lens.

      9. The orientation of the camera sensor is precisely adjusted. Do not remove the camera sensor, and do not change its position or orientation.

      10. Do not subject the camera sensor to a strong impact, and do not disassemble it.

      11. Only replace the windshield glass with a genuine part.

      12. Do not place reflective items on the dashboard.
