SFI SYSTEM

  1. FUNCTION

    1. The piston jet control system electronically controls the oil passage that supplies oil to the piston jets to comply with emission regulations and achieve pre-ignition control at low engine speeds for special engines with a small-type turbocharger.

    2. The ECM turns the oil pressure switching valve assembly on and off based on the ON-OFF map in accordance with the engine coolant temperature and engine load to control the oil supplied to the piston jets.

    3. At low engine coolant temperatures, fuel dilution can occur due to insufficient piston temperatures. To improve the warm-up time of the pistons and to enhance fuel economy, oil cooling via the piston jets is stopped.

    4. Oil injection from the piston jets is stopped in order to prevent generation of deposits* during high engine coolant temperatures and to enhance reliability.

      Tech Tips

*: Deposit: An accumulation of incombustible particulates and other compounds from the engine oil.
