Tech Tips
Economy with Superior Thermal Efficient Combustion (ESTEC): An engine series which achieves thermal efficiency (fuel economy) improvements through continuous improvements to engine combustion.
Direct injection 4 stroke gasoline engine Superior version with Turbo (D-4ST): A direct injection technology which uses a system to comprehensively perform supercharging control for the D-4S system and turbocharger to achieve a higher dimension of high tumble flow and turbo pressure control by optimizing the cylinder head ports and shape of the piston faces. As a result, fuel economy and low-speed torque are achieved.

Drive Mode Select
The drive mode select is a function where control characteristics switches of the powertrain (engine control system), chassis [Adaptive Variable Suspension system (AVS)*1, Electric Power Steering (EPS) system, LEXUS Dynamic Handling (LDH) system*2, Active Stabilizer Suspension System*3] and air conditioning (air conditioning system) are integrated. This function optimally controls each system according to the driving mode selected by the driver.

The control characteristics in each drive mode are as follows:
| Drive Mode | Control Characteristics |
|---|---|
| Normal | Performs control for normal driving. |
| Eco | Performs control for driving with improved fuel efficiency by generating torque more gently than Normal mode according to accelerator pedal depression while suppressing air conditioning cooling and heating operations. |
| Sport S | Improves accelerator response by controlling the transmission and engine to perform control for driving that requires powerful acceleration. |
| Sport S+ | Comprehensively controls the AVS, EPS system and LDH system*1 in addition to the transmission and engine control system of Sport S mode to ensure maneuverability and stability to perform control for sporty driving. |
| Sport S+*2 | Comprehensively controls the AVS, EPS system, LDH system and active stabilizer suspension system in addition to the transmission and engine control system of Sport S mode, achieving high levels of maneuverability, stability and riding comfort. As a result, control is performed to enable sporty driving while also ensuring ride comfort is maintained. |
| Comfort | Mainly uses the lower damping force range with the Adaptive Variable Suspension System (AVS) compared to Normal mode, performing control to achieve a comfortable ride. |
| Comfort*2 | Comprehensively controls the AVS, LDH system and active stabilizer suspension system to suppress the vehicle movement (lateral, roll and pitch) and performs control that focuses on delivering comfort for the rear seats appropriate for a flagship model. |
