| Windshield Wiper Motor Assembly
|
Receives various information and controls washer fluid spraying. |
| Level Warning Switch | Outputs signals to the combination meter when the remaining amount of washer fluid is equal to or less than the specified value. |
| Main Body ECU (Multiplex NetworkBody ECU) | Receives signals from various sensors and ECUs and sends them to the windshield wiper motor assembly |
| Skid Control ECU Assembly | Sends the vehicle speed signal to the combination meter assembly. |
| Steering Sensor | Sends the wiper control switch and washer switch position signal to the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU). |
| Windshield Wiper Switch Assembly
|
Sends the wiper control switch and washer switch position signal to the steering sensor. |
FUNCTION
Washer Control Function
The washer fluid spray/stop timing is controlled according to the period of time when the washer switch is turned on. Also, the washer fluid spraying period changes according to the vehicle speed, changes in ambient temperature and wiper switch operation condition.
Short Press Judgment Control (Washer Switch On Time: Less than 0.3 Seconds)
When the washer switch is turned on for less than 0.3 seconds, washer fluid only sprays while the switch is turned on. At this time, the wipers do not operate.
AUTO Operation Judgment Control (Washer Switch On Time: 0.3 Seconds or More and Less than or Equal to Period of One Wiper Operation)
When the washer switch is turned on for 0.3 seconds or more, the windshield wiper ECU (windshield wiper motor) judges that an AUTO operation is performed and operates the wipers once and then 2 additional times. The wiper blades are moved to the retracted position while the vehicle is driven and one wiper operation is performed after the vehicle is stopped for approximately 3 seconds (the vehicle speed is approximately 6km/h (4 mph)).
Washer fluid is sprayed when the washer switch is turned on (T1) and again at the start of the downward sweep operation (T2). Washer fluid does not spray for any upward sweep operations after the first.
| Vehicle Speed (km/h (mph)) | Outside Temperature (°C (°F)) | Upward Sweep Operation | Downward Sweep Operation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spraying Period: T1 (seconds) | Spraying Period: T2 (seconds) | ||
| Below 80 (50) | 15 (59) or more | 0.975 | 0.475 |
| Higher than 5 (41) to below 15 (59) | 1.1 | 0.6 | |
| 5 (41) or less | 1.25 | 0.7 | |
| 80 (50) or more | 15 (59) or more | 0.15 | |
| Higher than 5 (41) to below 15 (59) | 0.425 | ||
| 5 (41) or less | 0.7 |
Press and Hold Judgment Control (Washer switch On Time: More than One Complete Wiper Operation)
When the washer switch is turned on for longer than the period of one wiper operation, the windshield wiper ECU (windshield wiper motor) judges that the switch is pressed and held and continues performing wiper operations until the washer switch is turned off. After the wiper switch is turned off, the wipers operate 3 times. The wiper blades are moved to the retracted position while the vehicle is driven and one wiper operation is performed after the vehicle is stopped for approximately 3 seconds (the vehicle speed is approximately 4 km/h (2 mph)).
Tech Tips
When the washer switch is turned on for 40 seconds or more, it is judged as a malfunction and the washer fluid spraying is stopped.
Washer fluid is sprayed when the washer switch is turned on (T1) and at the start of the downward sweep operation (T2). For every wiper operation after the first, washer fluid is sprayed for 0.7 seconds at the start of the upward and downward sweep operations.

*: If the washer switch is turned off while washer fluid is spraying, the spraying stops immediately.
Lo Wiper Operation Control
If the washer switch is turned on during a Lo wiper operation, washer fluid is sprayed for 0.35 seconds at the start of upward and downward sweep operations.
Tech Tips
If the washer switch is turned off while washer fluid is spraying, the spraying stops immediately.
Hi Wiper Operation Control
If the washer switch is turned on during a Hi wiper operation, washer fluid is sprayed for 0.3 seconds at the start of upward and downward sweep operations.
Tech Tips
If the washer switch is turned off while washer fluid is spraying, the spraying stops immediately.
Washer Fluid Level Warning
When the remaining amount of washer fluid is equal to or less than the specified value, "Windshield Washer Fluid Low" is displayed on the multi-information display.
