DIFFERENTIAL SYSTEM

  1. CONSTRUCTION

    1. A high-efficient radial ball bearing is used for the rear differential drive pinion bearing to reduce friction loss, thus improving fuel consumption.

    2. Pre-torque Mechanism (Models with FD23A Type Rear Differential)

      1. The pre-torque mechanism consists of a construction in which a conical spring is provided between the side gear and the side gear washer, and a preload is applied between the side gear washer and the side gear. Because of this, when the load and speed differential are low, the balance limit between the left and right wheels can be achieved by friction produced by the sliding parts within the range of the conical spring force.

    3. TORSEN LSD (Models with FD23AT Type Rear Differential)

      1. The TORSEN LSD consists of a differential case, 10 planetary gears, 2 side gears and 3 thrust washers. The planetary gears are engaged in pairs, and each pair of planetary gears is engaged with one of the side gears. The planetary gears are supported by the holes provided in the differential case and structured to rotate while revolving around the side gear.

      2. The TORSEN LSD conducts differential limiting using friction force generated mainly between the planetary gear and differential case and between the side gear and washer when a velocity difference occurs between the left and right wheels. The friction force is proportional to the differential input torque and is generated by the reaction force between the planetary gear and side gear.

    4. Differential Support

      1. A dual dampening construction, in which the differential is mounted on the suspension member via rubber mounts, is used.

      2. The rear differential is supported on the suspension member at 3 points: 2 at the front and 1 at the rear.

      3. A rear differential dynamic damper is used. The damper absorbs vibrations to achieve noise reduction.
