SYSTEM CONTROL
The brake hold function reduces discomfort for the driver when waiting at traffic lights or repeatedly stopping and starting in heavy traffic.
When the brake pedal is pressed and the vehicle is stationary, the brake fluid pressure of all 4 wheels is maintained. On normal road surfaces, the vehicle remains stationary without requiring the driver to firmly depress the brake pedal or apply the parking brake.
When the accelerator pedal is depressed and the vehicle starts off, the brake fluid pressure of all 4 wheels is automatically released ensuring a smooth start off. When the brake hold function is operating while the vehicle is on an upward slope, the brake hold function prevents the vehicle from rolling backwards when the driver switches from the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal.

Effects of Brake Hold
The brake hold function reduces discomfort for the driver when waiting at traffic lights in heavy traffic by not requiring the parking brake to be applied or the brake pedal to be firmly depressed.
When starting off on a hill, the driver does not need to swiftly depress the accelerator pedal which can lead to unnecessary wheel spin.
Brake Hold Function Stand-by Mode Conditions:
In order to allow the brake hold function to operate, it is necessary to set the drive mode to brake hold function stand-by mode in advance. If the brake hold switch is pressed when all of the following conditions are met with the ignition switch ON, the system enters brake hold function stand-by mode. The brake hold stand-by indicator light will illuminate when the brake hold function stand-by mode conditions are met.

Brake Hold Function Operation Conditions:
The brake hold function will operate when all of the following conditions and the brake hold operation stand-by mode conditions are met. The brake hold operation indicator illuminates when the brake hold function is operating.

Tech Tips
If the brake hold function does not operate because the vehicle is on a steep hill, the brake hold operation indicator will not illuminate and a warning message will be shown on the multi-information display. In order to support smooth hill-starts, the brake fluid pressure of all 4 wheels will be maintained for approximately 2 seconds after the brake pedal is released.
Brake Hold Function Cancellation Conditions:
If any of the following conditions are met, the brake hold operation is cancelled and the brake hold indicator turns off.

*2: Models with manual transaxle
Electric Parking Brake Operation Conditions:
The electric parking brake is applied automatically when any of the following conditions are met while the brake hold function is activated with the brake pedal not depressed.
|
Tech Tips
When starting off the vehicle, the electric parking brake can be released manually, or the electric parking brake can be released by depressing the accelerator pedal with the driver seatbelt fastened.
Brake Hold Operation Stand-by Mode Cancellation Conditions:
When any of the following conditions are met in brake hold function stand-by mode, brake hold function stand-by mode is cancelled.
|
Brake Hold Function Prohibited Conditions:
Operation of the brake hold function is prohibited when a malfunction is detected in any of the following systems. The brake hold operation indicator blinks to indicate that operation of the brake hold function is prohibited.
|
Tech Tips
*1: If the brake fluid pressure cannot be maintained while the brake hold function is operating, the electric parking brake is applied automatically. In this situation, it is necessary to release the parking brake manually before starting off.
