  1. CONSTRUCTION


    1. A chain sub-assembly with an 8 mm (0.315 in.) pitch is used for the camshafts and a No. 2 chain sub-assembly with a 7 mm (0.276 in.) pitch is used for the oil pump assembly to make the engine more compact and maintenance-free.

    2. The chain sub-assembly is lubricated by a timing chain oil jet.

    3. The No. 1 chain tensioner assembly uses a spring and oil pressure to maintain proper chain tension at all times. The No. 1 chain tensioner assembly suppresses noise generated by the chain sub-assembly.

    4. The No. 1 chain tensioner assembly is a ratchet type tensioner with a non-return mechanism.

    5. To achieve excellent serviceability, the No. 1 chain tensioner assembly is constructed so that it can be removed and installed from the outside of the timing chain or belt cover sub-assembly.

    6. A resin chain tensioner slipper and a No. 1 chain vibration damper are used to reduce weight.
