OUTLINE
The electronic shift lever system is a shift control system using a shift-by-wire technology.
This system judges the vehicle conditions based on the information from various sensors, switches and ECUs and activates appropriate shift control in accordance with the driver's shift lever and P position switch (transmission shift main switch) operations.
A compact shift lever is used. It is a momentary shift type that returns to the home position when the driver's hand is released from the shift knob after a shifting operation. It can be shifted with a fingertip, and the ergonomically designed shifting pattern offers excellent ease of operation.
A shift lever position sensor provided in the shift lever detects the shift position (Home position, R, N, D or B) and sends a corresponding signal to the hybrid vehicle control ECU. The hybrid vehicle control ECU controls the speed of the engine, generator (MG1) and motor (MG2), in order to produce an optimal gear ratio.
With this system, when the driver presses the P position switch (transmission shift main switch), the P position control actuates the parking lock actuator (shift control actuator assembly) located in the transaxle in order to mechanically lock the parking gear, which engages the parking lock.
