CONSTRUCTION
Installed between the fuel tank assembly and the canister, the fuel vapor-containment valve (fuel tank solenoid main valve assembly) consists of a solenoid valve that turns on/off to seal the fuel tank assembly or release its internal pressure. This valve is normally closed; the fuel vapor passage opens when the valve is turned on.
In addition to the solenoid valve, this valve contains a fuel outlet valve. When the solenoid valve malfunctions or is inoperative due to the power source mode being off, the fuel outlet valve opens to release pressure if the fuel tank internal pressure becomes higher than standard. In addition, if the fuel tank pressure drops below a specified level (to a specified level of vacuum), the fuel outlet valve will open to admit air to the fuel tank assembly.
