HYBRID TRANSAXLE SYSTEM

  1. CONSTRUCTION

    1. The geartrain is composed of the traction motor that provides motive force, the motor reduction mechanism (reduction planetary gear), the reduction mechanism comprising the counter gear pair and the final gear pair, and the differential mechanism.

    2. The driving force of the traction motor is transmitted from the sun gear of the reduction planetary gear, through the pinion gear, and then into the ring gear that connects to the output (wheel). Through the motor reduction mechanism, the RPM from the traction motor is reduced, and driving torque is amplified.

  2. OPERATION

    1. Geartrain operation when driving forward

      1. The driving torque from the traction motor is amplified by the motor reduction mechanism (reduction planetary gear) and transmitted through the counter gear pair into the final gear pair.

    2. Operation when driving in reverse

      1. The traction motor rotates in the opposite direction to move the vehicle in reverse.

    3. One-way clutch operation

      1. The driving torque from the traction motor is transmitted through the reduction planetary gear to the counter drive gear. As a result, the outer race of the one-way clutch connected to the counter drive gear pushes the sprags to the inner race side, and because this engages the outer race (traction motor side) with the inner race (oil pump side), the rotation of the traction motor is transmitted to the oil pump side.

      2. When driving in reverse, the traction motor rotates in the opposite direction, and so the counter drive gear also rotates in the opposite direction and the sprags of the one-way clutch is disengaged, stopping the inner race and also stopping the oil pump.
