Battery Saving Function of Electrical Key Transmitter Sub-assembly
This function cancels the signal reception waiting state of the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly, reducing the consumption of current from its battery.
The electrical key transmitter sub-assembly can be placed into and taken out of battery saving mode. When the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is in battery saving mode, the entry and start system will not be able to detect the transmitter, as the transmitter will not respond to signals from the vehicle. The function of the entry and start system will not operate if the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is in battery saving mode.
Pressing the unlock button of the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly twice while pressing the lock button (the indicator light of the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly blinks 4 times) selects battery saving mode for the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly.
Battery saving mode can be canceled by pressing any button on the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly.
Key Cancel
A key cancel function is provided to make it possible to disable the entry and start system. Key cancel can be operated when certain operations are performed when the vehicle is under the following conditions:
Engine switch is off.
Driver door is closed.
Driver door is unlocked.
The operation procedure is as follows:
Press the unlock button of the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly.
Open the driver door within 5 seconds of completing the step above (driver door: closed → opened).
With the driver door open, press the unlock button of the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly 2 times within 5 seconds of completing the step above.
Note
If the driver door is closed before or while pressing the unlock button, the entry cancel setting mode will end.
Finish the step (a) to (c) within the 30 seconds of completing the step above.
Close and open the driver door twice (driver door: opened → closed → opened → closed → opened).
With the driver door open, press the unlock button of the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly 2 times.
Note
If the driver door is closed before or while pressing the unlock button, the entry cancel setting mode will end.
Close and open the driver door (driver door: opened → closed → opened).
Close the driver door within 5 seconds of completing the above step.
Check that the wireless buzzer sounds twice (short beeps) to confirm that the entry and start system has been canceled.
Key Code Registration Function
The table below shows the 3 special ID code registration function modes through which up to 4 different transmitter recognition codes can be registered. The codes are electronically registered (written to and stored) in the EEPROM. For details, refer to the Repair Manual.
| Mode | Function |
|---|---|
| Rewrite | Clears all previously registered codes and registers only the newly received codes. This mode is used whenever a transmitter or the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) is replaced. |
| Add | Adds a newly received code while preserving previously registered codes. This mode is used when adding a new transmitter. If the number of codes exceeds 4, the oldest registered code is cleared first. |
| Confirm | Confirms how many codes are currently registered. When adding a new code, this mode is used to check how many codes already exist. |
SYSTEM CONTROL
Entry Function
The entry function consists of the following functions:
| Function | Outline |
|---|---|
| Wireless Door Lock Control | This function is a convenient system for locking and unlocking all the doors at a distance. The operation of this function in the entry and start system is the same as that of the wireless door lock control system. However, the receiver in the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) uses a door control receiver assembly to perform the control. |
| Entry Unlock | When a key is located in the exterior actuation area of the outside handle of the front door, pressing a lock/unlock switch or back door opener switch will cause all doors to unlock. |
| Entry Lock | When a key is located in the exterior actuation area of the outside handle of the front door and the engine switch is off, all doors can be locked by simply pressing the lock/unlock switch or back door lock switch. |
| Entry Back Door Unlock | The back door is unlocked by pressing the back door opener switch of the back door. |
| Prevention of Key Confinement | Prevents the confinement of the key if the door is locked from the outside door handle while the key is still inside the vehicle. When locking the doors while the key is inside the vehicle, a buzzer sounds to prevent the key from being confined. |
| Warning | The entry and start system causes the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) to sound the buzzer in the combination meter assembly and wireless door lock buzzer in order to alert the driver. |
| Battery Saving | When the vehicle remains unused for a long period of time, a battery saving function can prevent discharge of the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly battery. |
| Key Cancel | The following key functions can be canceled by following certain procedures:
|
| Key Code Registration Function | A total of 4 keys can be registered. Key registration enables the registering (writing and storing) of transmitter recognition codes in the EEPROM that is contained in the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly). |
Wireless Door Lock Control Function
The wireless door lock control function has the following functions:
| Function | Outline |
|---|---|
| All Doors Lock | Pressing the lock button of the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly locks all doors. |
| All Doors Unlock | Pressing the unlock button of the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly unlocks all doors. |
| Power Back Door Open or Close*1 | Pressing the power back door button for approximately 1 second opens and closes the power back door. |
| Automatic Lock | If none of the doors are opened for approximately 30 seconds after being unlocked by wireless door lock control, all the doors are locked again automatically. |
| Answer Back | The hazard light blinks once and the wireless door lock buzzer sounds*2 when locking, and blinks twice when unlocking, to inform that the operation has been completed. |
| Door Ajar Warning | If any door is open or ajar, pressing the lock button of the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly will cause the wireless door lock buzzer to sound for approximately 10 seconds as a warning. |
| Panic Alarm*3 | Keeping the panic button on the transmitter pressed for longer than 1 second causes the following alarm functions to be activated:
|
*1: Models with power back door system
*2: Models with answer back buzzer function
*3: Models with panic alarm function
DIAGNOSIS
The certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) can detect malfunctions in the entry and start system when the power source mode is on (IG).
When the ECUs detect a malfunction, the smart warning light blinks in yellow to warn the driver. At the same time, the ECUs store a 5-digit Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) in its memory.
The 5-digit DTCs can be read after connecting the Global TechStream (GTS) to the DLC3.
The entry and start system may not operate successfully if a malfunction occurs.
For details, refer to the Repair Manual.
