BRAKE CONTROL SYSTEM

  1. SYSTEM CONTROL

    1. When the driver switches from the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal when starting off on a hill, hill-start assist control maintains the brake fluid pressure of all 4 wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling backward.

    2. When starting off on a hill, hill-start assist control allows the driver to slowly switch from the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal in a relaxed manner without the vehicle rolling backwards. Furthermore, occasions in which the parking brake is required to prevent the vehicle from rolling backward has been minimized.

    3. When starting off on a hill with a slippery road surface, the driver does not need to swiftly depress the accelerator which can lead to unnecessary wheelspin.

      1. Hill-start Assist Control Initiation Conditions

        • The skid control ECU judges if the vehicle is on an uphill slope based on signals from the acceleration sensor, and activates hill-start assist control when all of the following conditions are met.

          Initiation Conditions

          • The shift lever is in any position other than P or N. (Climbing with the front or rear of the vehicle toward the hilltop)

          • The vehicle is stationary.

          • The accelerator pedal is not depressed.

          • The parking brake is not applied.

      2. Hill-start Assist Control Cancellation Conditions

        • If any of the following conditions is met, hill-start assist control is canceled.

          Cancellation Conditions

          • The shift lever is moved to P or N.

          • The accelerator pedal is depressed.

          • The parking brake is applied.

          • Approximately 2 seconds have elapsed since hill-start assist control began.
