The boost converter boosts the nominal voltage of DC 201.6 V that is output by the HV battery to a maximum voltage of DC 600 V. The boost converter consists of a boost Intelligent Power Module (IPM) with a pair of built-in Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBTs) which perform switching control, and a reactor which acts as an inductor. By using these components, the converter boosts the voltage.
When MG1 or MG2 acts as a generator, the inverter converts the alternating current (maximum voltage of 600 V) into DC, and then the boost converter reduces the voltage to a nominal voltage of DC 201.6 V, thus the HV battery is charged.
