SFI SYSTEM

  1. FUNCTION

    1. The ETCS-i is used, providing excellent throttle control in all operating ranges.

    2. The ETCS-i uses the ECM to calculate the optimal throttle valve opening that is appropriate for the respective driving condition and uses a throttle control motor to control the opening.

    3. The ECM drives the throttle control motor by determining the target throttle valve opening in accordance with the respective operating condition.

    4. A combination switch assembly is provided. Selecting a mode using the combination switch assembly changes the throttle valve opening angle for each accelerator pedal operation. 4 modes are provided: NORMAL, SPORT (SPORT S and SPORT S+*1), ECO and SNOW*2.

      *1: F SPORT

*2: Except models for G.C.C. countries

    5. In case of an abnormal condition, this system switches to the limp mode.

      ETCS-i Control
      Control Outline
Throttle Valve Opening Angle Control Controls the throttle valve opening angle in accordance with the driving conditions based on signals from the ECM.
Idle Speed Control (ISC) Controls the fast idle speed in accordance with the engine coolant temperature, rotation fluctuation control during engine load, etc., to regularly maintain the optimal idling speed.
ECT + EFI + ETCS-i Integrated Control Cooperatively controls the throttle valve, VVT-iW and VVT-i to achieve a driving condition with optimal fuel economy during normal driving. Also, controls each actuator in accordance with the driver's intentions during acceleration to achieve a high torque response.
Driving Control Normal mode Controls the throttle valve opening angle to generate engine output in accordance with driving conditions and accelerator pedal position.
SPORT S mode, SPORT S+ mode*1 Regulates the throttle valve opening angle to enhance responsiveness to the driver's accelerator pedal operation.
SNOW mode*2 When SNOW mode is selected manually or selected automatically due to skid control ECU judgment, the system regulates the throttle valve opening angle to stabilize the vehicle when driving on a slippery road, such as on snow.
ECO mode Regulates the throttle valve opening angle to moderate the torque requested by accelerator pedal operation in order to enhance actual fuel consumption.
Cruise Control Constant speed driving is controlled by the ECM.
Dynamic Radar Cruise Control*3 Constant speed driving (including vehicle-to-vehicle distance control) is controlled in accordance with signals from the driving support ECU assembly.
TRC Throttle Control As part of the TRC, the throttle valve opening angle is reduced by a demand signal sent from the skid control ECU to the ECM. This demand signal is sent if an excessive amount of slippage occurs at a drive wheel, thus ensuring vehicle stability and applying an appropriate amount of power to the road.
VSC Coordination Control In order to bring the effectiveness of the VSC into full play, the throttle valve angle is regulated through a coordination control by the skid control ECU and the ECM.

      *1: F SPORT

*2: Except models for G.C.C. countries

*3: Models with dynamic radar cruise control system
