FUNCTION OF MAIN COMPONENTS
The main components of the power back door system have the following functions:
| Component | Function | |
|---|---|---|
| Power Back Door Unit Assembly Set | Motor | Opens and closes the back door when actuated by the power back door ECU. |
| Hall IC | Detects the operation conditions of the back door and outputs a pulse signal to the power back door ECU. | |
| Power Back Door ECU (Multiplex Network Door ECU) |
|
|
| Back Door Lock Assembly | Back Door Closer Motor | Latches and unlatches the back door when actuated by the power back door ECU. |
| Sector Switch | Detects the neutral position (initial position) of the back door closer motor and sector gear and outputs it to the power back door ECU. | |
| Pawl Switch | Detects that the latch is opened and then closed and outputs a signal to the power back door ECU. | |
| Latch Switch | Detects the ajar position of the latch and the fully closed position of the latch due to the closer operation (the latch is within the overstroke range after fully closing), and outputs it to the power back door ECU. | |
| Courtesy Switch | Detects the fully closed position of the latch and outputs it to the power back door ECU. | |
| Touch Sensor (Power Back Door Sensor Assembly) | Detects if an object is jammed in the back door during the closing operation of the back door. | |
| Combination Switch Assembly
|
The back door opens and closes when the power back door switch is turned on. | |
| Back Door Control Switch | The power back door closes when the back door control switch on the back door jamb is turned on. | |
| Power Back Door Close and Lock Switch (Door Control Switch) | The power back door closes and locks when the power back door close and lock switch (on the back door jamb) is turned on. | |
| Back Door Opener Switch Assembly | The back door opens when the back door opener switch assembly on the outside of the vehicle is turned on. | |
| Electrical Key Transmitter Sub-assembly
|
Transmits the power back door button signal to the electrical key and TPMS receiver assembly. | |
| Kick Door Control Sensor*2 |
|
|
| Power Back Door Warning Buzzer | When the power back door system starts to operate, the back door buzzer and wireless door lock buzzer sound to inform the user that the system is operating. | |
| Combination Meter Assembly | Receives a signal to blink the hazard warning light.*1 | |
| Smart Door Control Receiver Assembly | Receives the power back door button signal and transmits it to the certification ECU. | |
| Main Body ECU (Multiplex Network Body ECU) | Transmits a back door lock/unlock control signal, vehicle speed signal and shift position P signal to the power back door ECU via the Controller Area Network (CAN). | |
| Radio Receiver Assembly | Displays the vehicle customization screen on the multi-display assembly. | |

FUNCTION
The power back door system has the following functions:
| Function | Outline |
|---|---|
| Opener Function |
|
| Closer Function | Upon receiving an on signal from the power back door switch, back door control switch or power back door button with the back door open or after the opening operation is suspended, the power back door ECU actuates the motor in the power back door unit assembly set to close the back door, and then actuates the back door closer motor to engage the latch of the back door. |
| Close and Lock Function | Upon receiving an on signal from the power back door close and lock switch with the back door open or after the opening operation is suspended, the power back door ECU actuates the motor in the power back door unit assembly set to close the back door, and then actuates the back door closer motor to engage the latch of the back door. Afterwords, all of the doors lock. |
| Hands Free Power Back Door Function* |
|
| Jam Protection Function | Upon receiving signals from a touch sensor or the Hall ICs of the power back door unit assembly set, when the power back door ECU detects that an object is jammed in the back door, the door operation is stopped after moving back a certain distance upward during the closing operation and suspended during the opening operation. The power back door warning buzzer sounds twice when a jammed object is detected. |
| Back Door Open/Close Speed Control Function | In accordance with the signals received from the Hall ICs, the power back door ECU performs control so that the opening and closing speeds of the back door are equal. |
| Suspending Control Function | By conducting any of the following operations during the opening or closing operation of the power back door, the operation will be canceled:
|
| Memory Function |
|
| Assist Function | When the back door is stopped and then manually operated in the closing direction, the power back door ECU drives the motor in the power back door unit assembly set to operate the back door until it is fully closed. |
| Customization Function | This function can be used to set the back door opening angle at 5 different positions via the multi-display assembly vehicle customization screen. |
| Switch Operation Function | When each operation switch is operated, the following operations are performed in accordance with the back door condition:
|
| Hands Free Operation Function* | When the kick door control sensor is detected a touchless kick actuation operation, an opening operation is performed if the back door is closed (or was suspended during a closing operation), and a closing operation is performed if the back door is open (or was suspended during an opening operation). |

Tech Tips
If the power supply is stopped such as when the battery terminals are removed, initialization is required. The back door should be fully closed with power being supplied for initialization.
SYSTEM CONTROL
Opener Function
When the power back door switch or the power back door button is operated, the opener function operates as follows:
| 1 | After the power back door switch or the power back door button is pressed for approximately 0.8 seconds, the power back door warning buzzer sounds for 0.8 seconds and the hazard warning light blinks twice*. |
| 2 | The back door closer motor releases the latch. |
| 3 | The back door courtesy switch is turned on and the motor in the power back door unit assembly set starts to operate. |
| 4 | The back door closer motor is returned to the initial position and the latch switch is turned on. |
| 5 | After the power back door ECU detects a back door stop position pulse, the motor in the power back door unit assembly set is stopped. |
