Instrument Panel

1. The vehicle as a piece of Lexus sports gear is expressed through the pursuit of the concepts of the "strength of an SUV framework" and the "existence of a contact point between human and machine", the dynamic framework with a tough metal texture, and the contrastive quality born when that framework is wrapped in leather. The metal textured center frame (B in illustration), which symbolizes the framework piercing the vehicle, sinks deep into the instrument panel framework with a high horizontal base (A in illustration). Furthermore, the kneepads (C in illustration) are tightly wrapped in leather to support the passengers. As a result, a tight cockpit-like interior is created in the midst of a strong SUV atmosphere.

2. Leather texture is added to parts of the vehicle that people touch, and the metal texture of the bare framework is emphasized. While emphasizing a contrast in different materials, a look that is created when leather is wrapped around metal is pursued to express an elegance with depth. Metallic molding is used to finish the genuine wood panel ornamentation and the necessary processing is used for the different authentic materials to express the details suitable for a first-class vehicle. Also, the door trim is given a tight shape which feels as if it was pulled out of the underlying frameworks. Contrasting with the ornamentation of the ornament panel and switch base, the shoulder and armrest, which are touched by people, are wrapped in leather texture. At the same time, thickness and tension are added in consideration of usability to achieve a higher tactile sense appropriate for a refined piece of gear.

3. The center frame, which is a symbol of the structural beauty of the vehicle, is designed to look as if it was machined from a solid piece of metal. In order to create this look, a seamless integrated frame was achieved from top to bottom, and particular attention was paid to the beauty of its finishing.

4. The steering wheel uses a sporty design reminiscent of the LFA due to its center pad, which is based on a circular design to provide a center of rotation, thin metallic base plate, the contrastive material of the switch base set into the base plate, etc. Furthermore, plating is used to provide and even higher level of quality.

   

5. In different places that can be seen and touched throughout the vehicle, the textures of hard and thick leather (A in illustration) and soft leather (B in illustration) are carefully used to express cross sections which best display the qualities of each material. A refined quality created with people in mind and that could only be found in a Lexus was pursued.

   

6. A hand-wrapped surface is used on the large panel (instrument panel safety pad sub-assembly No. 2) in front of the passenger seat where occupants can easily reach. Furthermore, the use of stitching on the surface emphasizes the handmade quality of the item. Through the addition of an embossed surface with a different quality at the center of the 3-layered structure, a new sporty design is expressed.

7. The front passenger seat ornament (instrument cluster finish panel garnish No. 2) expresses an image of the hard ornament jutting out from the soft outer layer material. A black metallic coating, 3 types of film (dark, silver and F SPORT-exclusive metallic), 2 types of wood grain (striped and bamboo) and genuine F SPORT-exclusive aluminum that expresses sophistication and sportiness are used for the front passenger seat ornamentation to meet users' diverse needs. An exclusive design is used for the wood grain specification, and a high luminance silver coated bezel around the wood grain ornament is provided to further express high-quality.

8. On models with the Mark Levinson premium surround sound system, punching metal is used on the instrument panel side speaker cover (instrument panel speaker panel sub-assembly No. 1/No. 2) to express high-quality while enhancing sound quality. In addition, the satisfaction of selecting the Mark Levinson premium surround sound system is expressed through the use of a logo plate (speaker grille plate) on the instrument panel side speaker cover. (On models without the Mark Levinson premium surround sound system, an instrument panel side speaker cover made of resin is provided.)

9. Attention has been given to the layout of the light source of the footwell light illumination to pleasantly illuminate the foot area from the center of the occupant seat. Not only is bright and entertaining illumination provided when the door lock has been unlocked, illumination also decreases while driving (shift lever is in position other than P) in order to decrease driver discomfort. By illuminating once driving is completed, optimal illumination is provided in accordance with occupant action.

Glove Compartment

1. Through the ingenuity of the internal structure of the instrument panel, the capacity of the glove compartment has been increased to ensure a capacity of 10 L or more. A sufficient capacity allows an owner's manual, 500 ml plastic bottle and other items to be stored for practical use. In addition, flocked material is provided on the inside of the box to express high-quality.

2. A glove compartment door assembly integrated push type lock knob (glove compartment door lock sub-assembly) is used in which the finger space used on the previous pull type is not necessary, thereby achieving a flush design.

3. Illumination is provided on the inside of the glove compartment. An optimal illumination angle,makes it possible to illuminate the entire bottom surface.

Heater Control Panel

1. The meter ring and analog clock in the center of the instrument panel have been designed to look as if they were carved out of metal. A metallic panel is used, which uses a circular spin finish* for the dial that radially reflects light in a detailed manner depending on the angle it is viewed from, achieving a beautiful interior. Furthermore, the use of detailed graduations on the meter needles, which have been made as long as possible, express the attention to detail used in pursuing a tough and refined sense of quality.

   The dial has a detailed lined pattern of concentric circles such that depending on the way that light hits the surface, light is reflected off in a radial pattern.

2. The switch shape and layout contain a high class audio player system motif, expressing a mechanical high-quality feel.

3. The switch layout has been grouped by operation in consideration of usability.

4. The seat heater and air seat switches and indicators are incorporated, combining the cooling and heating operations and displays in the panel and enhancing user usability.

5. The left and right independent temperature adjustment (DUAL) and front seat switching function (S-FLOW) are used.

6. High contrast negative liquid crystal is used in consideration of visibility.

Center Console

1. A remote touch, which uses a new-generation touchpad, is used for the operation zone (center console) of the vehicle based on the design objective of achieving a sense of touchscreen operation. Together with fingertip vibration feedback linked with the buttons on the screen, the remote touch supports flick*1 and pinch in/pinch out*2 operations to achieve a smart and refined sense of operation. For the design, three-dimensional illumination on the touchpad with a feeling of depth, a comfortable palm rest with leather and stitching, etc., are used to help the cabin give off a modern, refined impression.

2. The horizontal width of the console box assembly rear has been widened and the area of the surface portion has been increased to achieve a design that conveys dignity and high-quality. By ensuring the width of the armrest, a pleasant and comfortable space is expressed.

3. A console compartment box with a large capacity storage space has been provided by widening the console. By removing the removable middle level tray (console box pocket), the storage space becomes 7.1 liters. CDs and DVDs can be placed both vertically and horizontally. In addition, flocked material is provided in the box storage area to express high-quality.

4. A middle level tray (console box pocket) is provided inside the console compartment box. In the middle level tray, the sunglass holder cover (rear console armrest lid), smart phones, tobacco, and other small objects can be stored, and coins can be stored in the 2 coin holders provided. Depending on usage, the tray can be moved forwards and backwards.

5. Illumination is provided on the inside of the console compartment box in consideration of removing stored items. Also, on models with a wireless charging system, an exclusive console box is provided, ensuring illumination.

6. An accessory socket and USB/AUX ports are provided inside the console compartment box. Attention has been given to ease of use in order to accommodate various usage scenarios such as placing portable music players in the middle level tray (console box pocket), charging from the accessory socket, or connecting to the USB/AUX ports to listen to music.

7. On models for Korea, an AC 120 V power outlet socket is provided on the console rear end panel sub-assembly as an option.

8. A wireless charging system (mobile wireless charger cradle assembly) is provided inside the console compartment box as an option. The wireless charging system has been placed in a location that allows wireless chargeable smart phones to be easily charged. The wireless charging system is a movable type secured by a hinge, making it possible to easily remove objects when accessing the inside of the console compartment box.

9. 2 vertical cup holders (console cup holder box sub-assembly) are provided in the center of the console. The support to prevent the cup from moving uses a 3-point type support to enhance appearance and ease of taking out the cup. Also, by using a glass-shaped design, holding a mug cup has been made possible. A new material with good grip quality is used for the inner mats, making it possible to open the cap of a plastic bottle with one hand.

10. A rear console armrest assembly has been positioned to support precise finger movements when operating the remote touch. Comfortable operability is provided through a raised design. Also, soft leather and stitching are provided on the surface (console cover RR) that the palm of the hand touches.

11. A sunglass storage space (console box pocket LWR (*4 in illustration)) is provided on the bottom of the rear console armrest assembly (*1 in illustration). A removable cover (rear console armrest lid (*2 in illustration)) that uses a spring lock and hook-on type structure is provided and can easily be removed by pulling the tag (console box hole cover (3* in illustration)) upwards. The removed cover can be placed in the middle level tray (console box pocket (*5 in illustration)) inside the console compartment box (*6 in illustration) and depending on the usage condition can be used for different purposes. In order to prevent sunglasses from becoming scratched, flocked material is provided on the inside of the sunglass storage space.

12. LFA decorative bolts (Instrument Cluster Finish End Screw Sub-assembly), which are the pinnacle of the Lexus sporty model, are used to emphasize that the kneepads are secured to (Console Upper Panel Garnish No. 1/No. 2) the sides of the center console. The installation positions and degree of tightening have been carefully considered to emphasize the hardness of the texture and expression of tension for the kneepad leather. As small and playful items, the bolts are used as sporty interior accents.

Side

1. In contrast to the ornament that passes along the front and back of the door trim, a leather-like material is wrapped around the parts such as the shoulder area and armrest where the human body touches in order to enhance quality and texture. Also, by greatly but gently scooping out the trim surface, maximum space has been ensured.

   

2. The door trim uses a structure that hides the distinctions between parts (A - A cross section in illustration). The backside parts are covered with overlapping front side parts and are hidden by the gap (B - B cross section in illustration) to express an overall clear appearance.

3. Single stitches are provided on the front door trim panel assembly UPR (*1 in illustration) and front door armrest assembly (*2 in illustration). While matching with the stitches on the instrument panel safety pad sub-assembly No. 2 (*3 in illustration) and console compartment door sub-assembly (*4 in illustration), attention has been given to the pitch, thickness and volume of the stitches to achieve integrated stitching through the entire cabin interior.

4. 7 types of variations for the decorative ornament (front door trim ornament and rear door trim ornament) are provided to meet diversified needs. For the wood grain specification, a metal-like silver molding is provided and a satin polish finish* (only for striped wood grain) is given on the wood grain panel surface in order to express high-quality. Genuine aluminum is used to express sophistication and sportiness.

Deck

5. By hooking the deck board lock hook attached to the back of the deck board assembly onto the back door opening, the deck board assembly can be maintained in a raised position, and placing luggage into and taking luggage out of the deck box has been made easier.

Sound absorbing and vibration damping material

1. The placement of sound absorbing materials on the back surface of the instrument panel and the back of the panel parts and the use of urethane foam on the front end of the instrument panel suppress the penetration of engine noise from the cowl portion and enhance quietness.
