STEERING COLUMN SYSTEM

  1. FUNCTION OF MAIN COMPONENTS

    Component Function
Tilt and Telescopic Switch Sends signals to the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU based on the driver's operation of the tilt and telescopic switch.
Seat Memory Switch LH Sends the switch operating signal to the front multiplex network door ECU LH.
Front Seat Inner Belt Assembly LH Sends the driver seat belt buckle switch signal to the airbag ECU assembly.
Engine Switch Sends the engine switch signal to the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly).
Multiplex Tilt and Telescopic ECU Calculates position information and operating condition using signals from the position sensor, the tilt and telescopic switch and the CAN network, and controls the tilt motor and telescopic motor.
Position Control ECU and Switch Assembly LH Performs coordinated controls between the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU for functions, such as anti-trap protection.
Main Body ECU (Multiplex Network Body ECU) Sends an auto away or auto return command to the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU.
Front Multiplex Network Door ECU LH Sends a seat memory switch signal to the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU).
Certification ECU (Smart Key ECU Assembly) Sends an engine switch signal to the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU.
Airbag ECU Assembly Sends the driver seat belt buckle switch signal to the position control ECU and switch assembly LH.
Tilt Steering Gear with Motor Assembly Tilt Motor Tilts the tilt steering gear with motor assembly up and down.
Tilt Sensor Detects the rotation signal of the tilt motor, and informs the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU.
Telescopic Motor Contracts and extends (telescopes) the tilt steering gear with motor assembly.
Telescopic Sensor Detects the rotation signal of the telescopic motor, and informs the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU.
  2. SYSTEM CONTROL

    1. The power tilt and power telescopic system has the following control functions, thus providing excellent ease of operation and entry/exit.

      Control Outline
Manual Control The tilt and telescopic positions can be adjusted using the tilt and telescopic switch.
Automatic Control Auto Away When the driver unfastens the seatbelt and turns the engine switch off before exiting the vehicle, the steering wheel assembly automatically fully tilts up and fully retracts.
Auto Return When the driver fastens the seatbelt or turns the engine switch on (IG) after entering the vehicle, the steering wheel assembly automatically returns to the previous position which was set before the auto away operation was performed (the tilt and telescopic position stored in memory).
Memory Control The memory system can store the driver seat position, tilt and telescopic position and outer mirror positions.
  3. FAIL-SAFE

    1. When the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU detects a malfunction in the power tilt and power telescopic system, the ECU changes to fail-safe mode. For details, refer to the Repair Manual.

  4. DIAGNOSIS

    1. If the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU detects a malfunction in the power tilt and power telescopic system, the ECU stores the malfunction data in memory. Then, by connecting the Global TechStream (GTS) to the DLC3, the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) can be accessed and an active test can be performed to test the operation of the tilt motor and the telescopic motor. For details, refer to the Repair Manual.
