FUNCTION OF MAIN COMPONENTS
The main components of the evaporative emission control system are as follows:
| Component | Function |
|---|---|
| ECM | Controls the purge VSV in accordance with the signals from various sensors, in order to achieve a purge volume that suits the driving conditions. |
| Intake Mass Air Flow Meter Sub-assembly | Detects the intake air mass. |
| Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor | Detects the engine coolant temperature. |
| Crank Position Sensor | Detects the engine speed and performs cylinder identification. |
| Purge Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV) | Opens in accordance with the signals from the ECM when the system is purging, in order to send the fuel vapor that was adsorbed by the charcoal canister sub-assembly into the intake manifold. |
| Charcoal Canister Sub-assembly | Contains activated charcoal to adsorb the fuel vapor that is created in the fuel tank assembly. |
SYSTEM CONTROL
The ECM controls the purge flow of the evaporative emissions (HC) from the charcoal canister assembly in accordance with engine conditions.
