LUBRICATION SYSTEM


  1. OUTLINE


    1. The lubrication circuit is fully pressurized and all oil passes through an oil filter.

    2. The crankshaft drives a trochoid gear type oil pump. The oil pump fits compactly inside the timing chain or belt cover sub-assembly.

    3. The oil strainer sub-assembly is made of plastic to reduce weight.

    4. This engine has an oil return system in which the oil is force-fed to the upper cylinder head sub-assembly and returns to the oil pan sub-assembly through the oil return holes in the cylinder head sub-assembly and cylinder block sub-assembly.

    5. The camshaft timing oil control valve assembly regulates the oil pressure and supplies oil to the VVT-i controllers (camshaft timing gear assembly and camshaft timing exhaust gear assembly).

    6. No. 1 oil nozzle sub-assemblies are utilized for piston cooling and lubrication.

    7. An oil check valve sub-assembly is used for rear engine oil seal cooling.

    8. An oil filter with a replaceable element is used.
