  1. FUNCTION OF MAIN COMPONENTS


    1. Windshield Deicer System

      Component Function
      Deicer Switch Inputs the windshield deicer wire operation signal into the air conditioning amplifier assembly.
      Air Conditioning Amplifier Assembly Operates and controls the windshield deicer system in accordance with the signals from the deicer switch.
      Windshield Deicer Wire Applies electrical current to a windshield deicer wire in the windshield glass to generate heat and remove ice from the windshield glass.

    2. Window Defogger System

      Component Function
      Defogger Switch Inputs the defogger wire operation signal into the air conditioning amplifier assembly.
      Air Conditioning Amplifier Assembly Operates and controls the window defogger system in accordance with the signals from the defogger switch.
      Defogger Wire Applies electrical current to the defogger wire installed in the back door glass to remove fogging from the back door glass.

    3. Heated Windshield Defroster

      Component Function
      Deicer Switch Inputs the heated windshield defroster operation signal into the air conditioning amplifier assembly.
      Air Conditioning Amplifier Assembly Operates and controls the heated windshield defroster in accordance with the signals from the deicer switch.
      Heated Windshield Defroster Applies electrical current to the heater element in the windshield glass to generate heat and remove ice from the windshield glass.

  2. OPERATION


    1. Windshield Deicer System


      1. This is activated when the ignition switch (engine switch*1) is turned to ON and the deicer switch is pushed.

    2. Window Defogger System


      1. When the ignition switch (engine switch*1) is turned to ON and the defogger switch is pushed, this system is activated to keep the defogger wire and mirror heaters*2 on for approximately 15 minutes.


        • *1: Models with entry and start system

        • *2: Models with mirror heater system

      2. There is a timer extension which can operate the window defogger system for up to an additional 255 minutes.

        Tech Tips

        The timer extension function operates when the following conditions are met:


        • Ambient Temperature: -3°C (266.6°F) or less

        • Vehicle Speed: 31.1 mph (50 km/h) or more

    3. Heated Windshield Defroster


      1. The heated windshield defroster is turned ON or OFF when the following conditions are met.

        Operation Condition
        Off to On The deicer switch is pressed to start deicing. The operation time of the heated windshield defroster is as follows.
        On to Off

        When any of the following conditions is met:


        • The deicer switch is pressed to stop deicing.

        • The operation time of the heated windshield defroster has elapsed.
