POWER STEERING SYSTEM

  1. OUTLINE

    1. A rack and pinion type steering gear with a hydraulic power steering assist is used.

    2. A Variable Flow Control (VFC) power steering is used on all models except models with a 5L-E engine.

  2. MAIN FEATURES

    1. Variable Flow Control (VFC) Power Steering

      1. The VFC power steering is provided with a solenoid valve, which is controlled by the power steering ECU, in the vane pump.

      2. The solenoid valve controls the discharge flow rate of the power steering fluid in accordance with the operating conditions of the steering wheel, vehicle speed, engine speed and transfer drive mode. Thus, the solenoid valve reduces the load on the engine applied by the actuation of the vane pump, and improves fuel economy.

      3. On models with an Adaptive Variable Suspension system (AVS), AVS cooperative control is used to perform optimal power steering control depending on the damping force control mode.

      4. On models with a drive mode select, drive mode cooperative control is used to perform optimal power steering control depending on the driving mode.
