GRILLE SHUTTER SYSTEM

  1. FUNCTION OF MAIN COMPONENTS

    Item Function
Radiator Shutter Sub-assembly The fins of the radiator shutter sub-assembly are closed by the swing grille actuator assembly to block the airflow to the engine compartment.
    Swing Grille Actuator Assembly
    • Actuates the radiator shutter sub-assembly based on the signal from the air conditioning amplifier assembly.

    • Sends a diagnosis signal to the air conditioning amplifier assembly when a malfunction is detected.

    Air Conditioning Amplifier Assembly
    • Transmits the vehicle speed, coolant temperature, A/C refrigerant pressure, outside temperature and A/C switch ON/OFF state data to the swing grille actuator assembly via LIN communication.

    • Transmits grille shutter system malfunction warning display request signals and diagnosis signals to the combination meter assembly.

    Combination Meter Assembly
    • Sends a vehicle speed signal to the air conditioning amplifier via CAN communication.

    • Displays a warning message on the multi-information display to alert the driver in accordance with a signal provided by the air conditioning amplifier assembly.

  2. OPERATION

    Item Description
    Normal Closing Operation
    • When the engine coolant temperature is low, the grille shutter is closed.

    • When driving at high speeds and it is determined that damage to the engine caused by heat will not occur, the grille shutter is closed.

    Normal Opening Operation
    • When the ambient temperature and/or the engine coolant temperature is high, the grille shutter is opened.

    • When the air conditioning system is turned on, the grille shutter is opened.

Opening Operation when Turning Power Switch off When the power switch is turned off, the grille shutter is opened.
Opening Operation Retry When a stuck malfunction occurs, the grille shutter is opened.
  3. DIAGNOSIS

    1. If the air conditioning amplifier assembly detects a malfunction in the grille shutter system, Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are stored in the air conditioning amplifier assembly.

      1. The 5-digit DTCs can be read by connecting the Global TechStream (GTS) to the DLC3. For details, refer to the Repair Manual.
