POWER WINDOW CONTROL SYSTEM


  1. SYSTEM CONTROL


    1. The power window control system has the following functions:

      Function Outline
      Power Up-and-down This function causes the window to open or close while the multiplex network master switch assembly or power window regulator switch assembly is being pulled halfway up or pushed halfway down. The window stops as soon as the switch is released.
      One-touch Auto Up-and-down The one-touch auto up-and-down function enables the window to be fully opened or closed at a touch of the multiplex network master switch assembly or power window regulator switch assembly.
      Variable Speed Control This control minimizes the occurrence of noise during the power window open/close operation by changing the operating speed of the power window motor.
      Jam Protection The jam protection function automatically stops the power window and moves it downward if a foreign object gets jammed in the window during one-touch auto-up operation or power up operation.
      Remote Control The multiplex network master switch assembly can control the up-and-down operation of the windows.
      Window Lock
      • Operation of the 3 passenger windows at each power window regulator switch assembly is disabled when the window lock switch is pressed.

      • Even when the window lock switch is pressed, the 3 passenger windows can be operated using the multiplex network master switch assembly.

      Key Off Operation
      • This function makes it possible to operate the power windows for approximately 43 seconds after the power switch is turned off, if either front door is not opened.

      • If the window lock switch is off, the windows can be operated using any of the power window regulator switch assemblies. If the window lock switch is on, only the multiplex network master switch assembly can be used to operate the windows.

      • If the driver door or front passenger door is opened during automatic window operation while the key-off operation function is on, the window will stop operating.

      Key-linked Up-and-down When the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is not in the interior detection area, the driver door is locked, and the mechanical key in the driver door is turned and maintained in the lock direction for 1.5 seconds or more, the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) activates the power window motors to raise all door windows while the mechanical key is turned. Similarly, when the driver door is unlocked, turning and maintaining the driver door key cylinder in the unlock direction for 1.5 seconds or more will cause all door windows to be lowered.
      Transmitter-linked Up-and-down When the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) receives an unlock signal from the transmitter for longer than 3 seconds, the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) controls their power window motors in accordance with the signal to open the windows. Similarly, when the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) receives a lock signal from the transmitter for longer than 3 seconds, the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) controls their power window motors in accordance with the signal to close the windows.
      Power Window Glass Open Warning When the power switch is turned from on (IG) to off and the driver door is opened with the power window glass open, the buzzer in the combination meter assembly sounds once. Then, a warning message appears on the multi-information display and the master warning light blinks.

      Tech Tips

      The ECU built into each power window motor stores the initial position of its door window. The initial position is not cleared even if the terminals, fuses or the power window motor connector are disconnected. However, after removing or reinstalling window components, or replacing the power window regulator switch assembly or power window regulator motor assembly, the stored initial position data must be cleared and/or initialization must be performed. For details, refer to the Repair Manual.

    2. Variable Speed Control


      1. Opening Power Window


        1. To minimize noise when the power window down function is in operation, the power window regulator motor assembly reduces the opening speed from normal speed when the front door window glass is between the fully opened position and an open position of approximately 134 mm (5.3 in.), and when the rear door window glass is between the fully opened position and an open position of approximately 152 mm (6.0 in.).

      2. Closing Power Window


        1. To minimize noise when the power window up function is in operation, the power window regulator motor assembly increases the door window glass closing speed to normal speed when the front door window glass is between the fully opened position and an open position of approximately 21 mm (0.8 in.), and when the rear door window glass is between the fully opened position and an open position of approximately 30 mm (1.2 in.). Also, the assembly reduces the closing speed from normal speed when the front door window glass is between the fully closed position and a close position of approximately 118 mm (4.6 in.), and when the rear door window glass is between the fully closed position and a close position of approximately 128 mm (5.0 in.).

    3. Jam Protection Function


      1. A jam protection function automatically stops the power window and moves it downward if a foreign object gets jammed in the door window during one-touch auto up operation.

      2. The operation of the jam protection function is described below:

        Door Window Position from Fully Closed Operation
        200 mm (7.87 in.) or more Down operation of 125 mm (4.93 in.) or 2.5 seconds
        200 mm (7.87 in.) or less Down operation until a door window downward movement of 200 mm (7.87 in.) is reached, or until 5 seconds have elapsed
      3. The magnet and Hall IC in the power window regulator motor assembly are used to enable power window jam protection.

      4. The Hall ICs convert the changes in the magnetic flux that occur through the rotation of the magnet into pulse signals and output them to the power window ECU built into the power window regulator motor assembly.

      5. To control the jam protection function, the ECU determines the amount of movement and jamming of the window glass based on the pulse signal A from the Hall IC; and judges the direction of the window glass movement based on the phase difference between the pulses from Hall IC signals A and B.

  2. FAIL-SAFE


    1. If a Hall IC in the power window motor malfunctions, some power window functions will be prohibited for the fail-safe mode:


      1. Each power window operates when the corresponding power window switch is fully pushed down or pulled up and held in that position.

      2. When any power window ECU detects an abnormality in a Hall IC, which detects the position, speed and direction of the window, it switches to fail-safe mode.

  3. DIAGNOSIS


    1. When the power window ECU detects a malfunction in the power window control system, a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) is stored in memory.


      1. The DTCs can be read using the Global TechStream (GTS). For details, refer to the Repair Manual.
