OUTLINE
A Variable Gear Ratio Steering (VGRS) system is used.
This system controls the turning angle of the front wheels in accordance with the vehicle speed. As a result, excellent ease of steering operation and vehicle stability have been achieved, from the low-speed to the high-speed range.
This system is controlled by the front steering control ECU, which operates the steering actuator assembly that is mounted on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly. The front steering control ECU calculates the desired steering angle and controls the steering actuator assembly operating angle based on the current steering angle detected by the steering sensor and vehicle speed.
The VGRS system performs control in cooperation with the brake control system. The VGRS system controls the turning angle of the front wheels based on the turning angle request sent from the skid control ECU.
