VEHICLE PROXIMITY NOTIFICATION SYSTEM

  1. FUNCTION OF MAIN COMPONENTS

    Item Function
Vehicle Approaching Speaker Controller Controls starting and stopping of operation, sound pitch and volume level based on signals received from ECUs and sensors.
Vehicle Approaching Speaker Assembly Emits warning sounds based on the operation signal received from the vehicle approaching speaker controller.
Vehicle Approaching Speaker Switch Disables the vehicle proximity notification system operation when the switch is turned on.
Transmission Control ECU Assembly Sends a P position state signal (parking lock state of hybrid transaxle) to the vehicle approaching speaker controller.
Combination Meter Assembly Sends a vehicle speed signal to the vehicle approaching speaker controller.
Engine Oil Pressure Switch Assembly Sends an engine running signal to the vehicle approaching speaker controller.
Stop Light Control ECU Assembly Sends a stop light ON signal to the vehicle approaching speaker controller.
  2. OPERATING CONDITION

    Condition Outline
    System Active

The vehicle proximity notification system operates (emits a warning sound) when either of the following conditions is met:

    • The vehicle speed is 0 km/h (0 mph), the engine is stopped, and the stop light, P position switch and vehicle approaching speaker switch are off.*

    • The vehicle speed is 25 km/h (15 mph) or less, the engine is stopped, and the P position switch is off.

    System Stop

The vehicle proximity notification system stops operating when any of the following conditions is met:

    • The engine starts.

    • The vehicle speed is 25 km/h (15 mph) or more.

    • With a vehicle speed of 0 km/h (0 mph), the stop light on signal is received continuously for more than approximately 1 seconds.

    • With a vehicle speed of 0 km/h (0 mph), the P position indicator light illumination state signal is received continuously for more than approximately 1 second.

    • With a vehicle speed of 0 km/h (0 mph), the stop light off signal is received continuously for more than approximately 3 seconds. (such as when the vehicle is stopped, and in neutral with the parking brake applied).

    Tech Tips

    • *: When the system is stopped due to a vehicle speed of 0 km/h (0 mph) and the stop light off signal is received continuously for more than approximately 3 seconds, the system operates again when any of the following conditions is met:

      • A vehicle speed signal of 1 km/h (1 mph) or more is received.

      • The brake pedal is operated.

  3. SYSTEM CONTROL

    Control Outline
    Vehicle Speed Linked Control
    • Emits the warning sound by controlling the pitch of the sound in accordance with vehicle speed.

    • The warning sound becomes higher as the vehicle accelerates and it becomes lower as the vehicle decelerates.

Audibility Enhancing Control*1 When the vehicle proximity notification system is not sounding and the vehicle is stopped (vehicle speed of 0 km/h (0 mph)), if the system operates due to a vehicle speed signal or brake pedal operation (system is changed from being disabled to enabled), the warning sound volume becomes higher than usual for about 1 second to warn people around the vehicle that the vehicle may move.
Fade-in/Fade Out Control When the system starts operating, the warning sound volume gradually increases*2, and when system operation is stopped, the sound volume gradually decreases.

    Tech Tips

*1: The customizable functions can be turned on or off using the Techstream. For details, refer to the Repair Manual.

*2: When audibility enhancing control is performed, the system starts operating using this audibility enhancing control.

  4. DIAGNOSIS

    1. The vehicle approaching speaker controller will also store Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). The DTC can be accessed through the use of a Global Techstream (GTS). For details, refer to the Repair Manual.
