ELECTRONIC SHIFT LEVER SYSTEM

  1. OUTLINE

    1. The electronic shift lever system is a shift control system using shift-by-wire technology.

    2. This system judges the vehicle operating conditions based on the information from various sensors, switches and ECUs, and activates appropriate shift control in accordance with the driver's shift lever and P position switch (transmission shift main switch) operation.

    3. A compact transmission instrument panel shift assembly is used. It is a momentary type mechanism with a shift lever that returns to the home position when the driver's hand is released from the shift knob after a shifting operation. It can be shifted with a fingertip, and the ergonomically designed shifting pattern offers excellent ease of operation.

    4. Shift lever position sensors (shift/select) provided in the transmission instrument panel shift assembly detect the shift lever position (R, N, D or B) and send signals to the power management control ECU (HV CPU). The power management control ECU (HV CPU) controls the speed of the engine, Motor Generator 1 (MG1) and Motor Generator 2 (MG2), in order to produce an optimal gear ratio.

    5. The power management control ECU (HV CPU) selects the shift state in accordance with the signals from the shift lever position sensors.

    6. With this system, when the driver presses the P position switch (transmission shift main switch), P position control actuates the shift control actuator assembly located in the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly in order to mechanically lock the parking gear, which engages the parking lock.
