THEFT DETERRENT

  1. FUNCTION

    1. The theft deterrent system has the following functions:

      Function Outline
Alarm When the theft deterrent system enters the alarm state, the warning items (hazard warning lights, vehicle horn, and theft warning siren assembly) are operated for approx. 27.5 seconds.
      Security Indicator
      • When the state of the theft deterrent system enters the armed preparation or alarm state, the security indicator light is illuminated to inform the user.

      • This indicator is also the engine immobiliser indicator, and it blinks when the engine immobiliser is in an engaged state.

      Forced Door Lock

The main body ECU transmits a door lock signal to all the doors when all of the following conditions are satisfied:

      • The theft deterrent system is in the alarm state.

      • There is no key inserted in the ignition key cylinder.*

The function stops when one of the following conditions is met:

      • All doors are locked.

      • The warning ends.

      • The ignition key is inserted in the ignition key cylinder.*

      • *: Models without entry and start system

  2. OPERATION

    1. Intrusion Sensor

      1. An intrusion sensor is located in the overhead console. This sensor transmits radio waves at 24.2 GHz in the vehicle interior. When an intruding object moves, it disrupts the reflection of the radio waves, and the sensor detects the resulting changes in the phase of the radio waves.

      2. The intrusion sensor, which is linked to the auto alarm system, sets automatically when the system transfers to the armed state (and the setting of the auto alarm is completed). When the intrusion sensor detects a moving object in the vehicle interior, the system transfers to the alarm state. Then, the system sounds the horn intermittently and blinks the hazard warning light for approximately 27.5 seconds and performs a forced locking operation.

      3. The operation of the intrusion sensor can be temporarily canceled by setting the alarm within 5 minutes after pressing the intrusion sensor cancel switch, which is provided on the overhead console (it will set automatically the next time the setting of the auto alarm is completed). The security indicator light blinks with short intervals when the intrusion sensor is in off mode.

    2. Glass Print Pattern Type Glass Breakage Sensor

      1. The main body ECU, print patterns on the rear door quarter window glass and rear window defogger are connected in series, and when the main body ECU detects an open circuit, it determines that one of the windows has been broken.

      2. When the main body ECU receives an open circuit signal from the print pattern or rear window defogger for approximately 400 msec while in the armed state, it determines that one of the windows has been broken and changes the system to the alarm state in order to activate an alarm.

    3. Theft Warning Siren Assembly

      1. During normal operation, this siren sounds an alarm in accordance with the operation signal from the main body ECU. Because this siren has an internal battery, it can independently sound an alarm even if the vehicle's battery terminals are disconnected or if the wiring harnesses related to the system are cut.

    4. Basic Operation

      1. This system activates as described in the diagram below when one of items is placed in the respective state:

        A004LVOE02
        Condition Item
        (1)

In the disarmed state, when the ignition switch (engine switch*1) is off, the system state is switched if all of the following conditions are met:

        • The ignition key is not inserted in the ignition key cylinder.*2

        • Ignition switch (engine switch*1) is off.

        • When the doors, engine hood, and luggage compartment door*3 are all closed, the key*1 or transmitter*2 is used to lock all doors.

        (2) When the doors, engine hood, and luggage compartment door*3 are all closed and locked, and 30 seconds have elapsed.
        (3)

The system state is switched when one of the following conditions is met:

        • When one of the doors, engine hood, or luggage compartment door*3 is opened using the key*1 or transmitter*2.

        • When one of the doors is unlocked.

        • When the ignition key is inserted in the ignition key cylinder.*2

        • When the engine switch is pushed.*1

        • When the ignition switch (engine switch*1) has been turned to ON or ACC.

        • When a terminal is disconnected from the battery and reconnected.

        (4)

The system state is switched when one of the following conditions is met:

        • Any door, engine hood, or luggage compartment door*3 is opened.*4

        • Any door is unlocked through an operation other than the key*1 or transmitter*2.*4

        • When the ignition switch has been turned off and then turned to ON.*2, 4

        • The power source mode is turned from on (IG) to off, with the key outside the interior actuation area.*1, 4

        • The intrusion sensor has detected an intruder.*4, 5, 6

        • The main body ECU detects on open circuit in the any print pattern type glass breakage sensors.*4, 5, 7

        • A terminal is disconnected from the battery and reconnected.

        (5)

The system state is switched when one of the following conditions is met:

        • The key*1 or transmitter*2 is used to unlock the doors.

        • After the engine start, 2 seconds have elapsed.

        • The luggage compartment door is opened through the operation of the luggage compartment door open button on the key*1 or transmitter*2.

        (6) After approx. 27.5 seconds of the alarm time have elapsed.

*1: Models with entry and start system

*2: Models without entry and start system

        *3: Sedan models

*4: If the apparent theft continues to be detected, the warning will resume 5 seconds after the previous warning. The warning will repeat a maximum of 10 times.

*5: The state will not switch within 30 seconds of the key entering or leaving any exterior actuation area.

        *6: Models with intrusion sensor

*7: Models with print pattern type glass breakage sensor

    5. Forced Door Lock Operation

      1. When the system starts the alarm state, and one of the doors is subsequently unlocked, the forced door lock operation forcefully outputs a door lock signal to prevent intrusion into the vehicle. This operation becomes active when all the starting conditions listed below have been met, and stops when one of the stopping conditions occurs:

        Condition Item
Starting Condition The theft deterrent system is in the alarm state.
There is no key inserted in the ignition key cylinder.*
One of the doors is unlocked.
Stopping Condition All doors are locked.
        The warning ends.
The ignition key is inserted in the ignition key cylinder.*

        • *: Models without entry and start system
