OUTLINE
To assist the driver in parking the vehicle by monitoring the rear view, the monitor system has a rear television camera assembly mounted on the luggage compartment door*1 or the back door*2 to display a view of the area behind the vehicle on the display of the inner rear view mirror assembly*3 or radio and display receiver assembly*4.
The monitor system consists of a rear television camera assembly, back-up light switch assembly*5, park/neutral position switch assembly*6, inner rear view mirror assembly*3 and radio and display receiver assembly*4.

*4: Models with display audio system or navigation system

*6: Models with automatic transaxle or CVT
PRECAUTION
Do not rely entirely on the monitor system. Use caution, just as you would when backing up any vehicle.
Never back up while looking only at the screen. The image on the screen may differ from the actual conditions. If you back up while looking only at the screen, you may hit an object or have an accident. When backing up, be sure to check by looking behind and all around the vehicle, both directly and using the mirrors, before proceeding.
In the following cases, it may become difficult to see items in the image on the screen, but this does not indicate a malfunction:
In the dark (for example, at night).
When the temperature near the lens is very high or low.
When water droplets are present on the television camera assembly, or when humidity is high (for example, when it rains).
When foreign matter (for example, mud or salt) is present on the television camera lens.
When the sun or the beams of the headlights is shining directly into the television camera lens.
When the system is used under fluorescent, sodium or mercury lights (or similar), the illuminations and the illuminated areas may appear to flicker.
If there is a bright object (for example, a white wall) nearby, it may be reflected in the inner rear view mirror assembly, making the monitor difficult to see.
If a bright light (for example, sunlight reflected off the vehicle body) is picked up by the rear television camera assembly, the smear effect*, particular to a Charge Coupled Device (CCD) camera, may occur.
Tech Tips
*: A phenomenon that occurs when a bright light is received by the rear television camera assembly, and transmitted to the screen, the light source will appear to have a vertical streak above and below it.
