  3. FUNCTION

    1. Automatic Headlight Beam Level Control System (Destination Package for South Korea)

      1. The automatic headlight beam level control system mainly consists of the headlight leveling ECU assembly, rear height control sensor sub-assembly and 2 headlight leveling motors. The headlight leveling ECU assembly controls the system.

      2. The headlight leveling ECU assembly detects the movement of the suspension from the rear height control sensor sub-assembly and the vehicle speed from the combination meter assembly.

      3. The headlight leveling ECU assembly then controls the headlight leveling motor based on this information, in order to change the headlight reflector angle.

      4. When the headlight leveling ECU assembly detects that the vehicle is stopped and the power switch is on (IG), it executes the initial setting of the stepper motors.

  4. CONSTRUCTION

    1. HID Headlight System

      1. Discharge Bulb

        • Instead of the filament contained in an incandescent bulb, a discharge bulb contains an arc tube, which is filled with xenon gas and metal halide.

          A01HRV5
  5. FAIL-SAFE

    1. HID Headlight System

      1. The light control ECU executes the fail-safe actions listed below in accordance with the problem that has been detected.

        Problem Outline
Abnormal Input Voltage If the voltage that is input to the light control ECU deviates from the normal operating voltage (9 to 16 V), the light control ECU stops illuminating the headlight. It resumes illuminating the headlight once the voltage reverts to the normal operating voltage. However, if the input voltage decreases after the headlights have illuminated, the headlights will remain illuminated until the input voltage becomes insufficient to light the bulbs.
Abnormal Output (Open Circuit or Short Circuit) If an abnormal condition (open or short) occurs in the voltage that is output by the light control ECU, the light control ECU stops illuminating the headlight and will maintain this state until the power is reinstated. Power is reinstated by turning the light control switch from off to on.
Bulb Open Circuit If a bulb is not inserted in its socket, the light control ECU stops generating high voltage until the bulb is inserted correctly and the power is reinstated. Power is reinstated by turning the light control switch from off to on or turning the power switch from off to on (IG).
    2. Automatic Headlight Beam Level Control System

      1. If an abnormal condition such as those listed below is detected, the headlight leveling ECU assembly operates in fail-safe mode. The headlight leveling ECU assembly illuminates the headlight leveling warning light in the combination meter assembly when an abnormality in the rear height control sensor sub-assembly is detected.

        Trouble Area Condition Fail-safe Operation
Rear Height Control Sensor Sub-assembly Signal level abnormality Holds the beam at the position of the headlight leveling actuator when abnormality is detected.
Headlight Leveling Motor Open or short circuit

        Combination Meter Assembly

        - Vehicle Speed Signal

        Vehicle speed signal pulse abnormality
Headlight Leveling ECU Assembly Voltage abnormality
