BODY STRUCTURE GENERAL

  1. OUTLINE

    1. Light Weight and Highly Rigid Body

      1. High tensile strength steel and ultra high-tensile strength steel are used in order to achieve excellent body rigidity and a lightweight body.

    2. Safety Features

      1. The impact absorbing structure minimizes cabin deformation by effectively helping to absorb the impact energy in the event of a front, side or rear collision. This provides high performance.

    3. Rust-resistant Body

      1. Rust-resistant performance is enhanced by the extensive use of anti-corrosion sheet steel, as well as by an anti-corrosion treatment that includes the application of anti-rust wax, sealer and anti-chipping paint to the easily corroded parts such as the hood and fender.

    4. Low Vibration and Low Noise Body

      1. Effective application of vibration damping and noise suppressant materials reduces engine, wind and road noise.

    5. Aerodynamics

      1. Optimization of the shape of the body and under floor ensures excellent aerodynamic performance.

    6. Parts with Low Repair Cost

      1. A construction, which does not cause damage to the body in low-impact collisions, is used for repair cost reduction.

  2. MAIN FEATURES

    1. Exterior Design

      1. Front View

        1. The front peripheral design gives off a sense of reliability by elevating the headlights and radiator grille to create a design appropriate for a genuine off-road vehicle.

        2. A radiator grille which has been placed higher, turn signal lights which protrude outward and headlights are built into front face structure, expressing the uniqueness of the Land Cruiser.

        3. A large radiator grille and wide headlights are combined into one unit to express a design with a strong presence appropriate to Land Cruiser.

        4. The sharply trimmed lower section of the front bumper utilizes a shorter overhang to express agility.

        5. The shape of the lower part, which unites the front bumper cover with the front fender panels, creates a two-tier structure that expresses safety and security by protecting the radiator grille, headlights and other components of the upper part.

        6. The radiator grille expresses a tough image by combining a thick plated square arch with 5 vertical bars which sink into the front bumper cover. Also, functionality and precision is expressed by the plated areas on both sides of the vertical bars.

        7. A LAND CRUISER logo is positioned on the corner of each headlight.

      2. Rear View

        1. A surface protrusion and a vertical curvature, which are coordinated with the side door design and the flow of the flare, are used for the back door to achieve a solid design with a high level of texture.

        2. The quarter pillar tapers along the corners and then thickens to create a strong cabin design.

        3. A clear, sharply chiseled shape is used for the rear bumper to express a dynamic design.

        4. Three solid, protruding components with a structure that appears to flow rearward are positioned vertically in the rear combination light, giving a dynamic design with an advanced functional appearance. The combined modeling of the clear-colored outer lenses and the plated reflectors expresses a design with depth, accuracy and texture.

        5. The rear combination lights, which visually connect to the horizontally-aligned large license plate garnish, have been combined with the back door outside garnish to express wideness and a low center of gravity. The back door outside handle is built into the license plate garnish, achieving a clear rear appearance (on models without a back door spare tire carrier).

        6. The spare wheel cover is a full cover type. The cover protrudes simply, consists of a sculpture-like face combined with a shaved face, and is integrated with the body surface for a harmonious design (on models with a back door spare tire carrier and spare wheel cover).

        7. The rear television camera (provided as optional equipment) is built into the spare tire carrier, providing an attractive, solid design that combines utility with safety on models with a back door spare tire cover.

        8. A LAND CRUISER logo is positioned on the side of each rear combination light.

      3. Side View

        1. A streamlined design supported by a wide quarter pillar is used on the roof side to achieve a light yet sturdy cabin.

        2. The design curves up sharply in the front and rear sections, and the overhang appears shorter, thus achieving a light feel. In addition, the curvature of the rear flare and rear bumper has been reviewed and "short wheelbase & rear overhang" is emphasized to achieve an active and youthful design.

        3. The door cross section, which emphasizes the protrusion from the belt line, and the rear section, which has been heavily narrowed down, compresses the mass toward the center of the cross section, thus giving a dynamic design appropriate for a genuine 4WD. Also, a protruding rocker cross section design, giving an impression of supporting the structure, is achieved for of stability.
