1AR-FE Engine
The 1AR-FE engine is an in-line 4-cylinder 2.7-liter, 16-valve DOHC engine. This engine uses a Dual Variable Valve Timing-intelligent (VVT-i) system, Direct Ignition System (DIS), Acoustic Control Induction System (ACIS) and Electronic Throttle Control System-intelligent (ETCS-i). These control functions achieve improved engine performance, fuel economy, and clean emissions.

Active Torque Control 4WD System
An active torque control 4WD system with an electromagnetic control coupling is used. The active torque control 4WD system has an electromagnetic control coupling in the front part of the rear differential. The coupling transmits torque to the rear wheels when needed, and only in the amount needed, based on information provided by various sensors.
A compact and lightweight FD15A differential with an integrated electromagnetic control coupling is used.

Suspension
A MacPherson strut type independent suspension is used for the front.
A dual link MacPherson strut type independent suspension is used for the rear.

Steering
An Electric Power Steering (EPS) system is used. The EPS system uses a power steering motor, a power steering torque sensor and a reduction mechanism that are built into the steering column assembly to generate assist torque, in order to assist the driver steering effort.
