FUNCTION OF MAIN COMPONENTS
The main components of the luggage compartment door closer system have the following functions:
| Component | Function | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| Luggage Closer Motor Assembly | Power Trunk Motor | Opens and closes the luggage compartment door when actuated by the power trunk lid ECU. | |
| Magnetic Clutch | Transmits the rotation of the power trunk motor to the driven gear. | ||
| Power Trunk Lid ECU | Controls the power trunk lid system in accordance with the signals received from the switches and ECUs. | ||
| Power Trunk Lid ECU | Hall IC | Detects the luggage compartment door position and the opening and closing speed of the luggage compartment door. | |
| Power Trunk Buzzer | Sounds twice when the luggage door closer switch is pushed. | ||
| Luggage Door Closer Assembly | The luggage door closer assembly provides both the opener and closer functions. In accordance with the signals received from the switches, the luggage door closer assembly automatically closes the luggage compartment door that is ajar to the fully closed state. This is accomplished by actuating the luggage door closer motor to push and turn the latch in order to pull the striker in. Upon receiving the open signals from the switches, the system actuates the motor to disengage the latch from the link mechanism in order to free the latch. As a result, the striker disengages from the latch, enabling the luggage compartment door to open. | ||
| Luggage Door Closer Assembly | Half Switch | Changing the switch signal from on to off causes the closer function to start. | |
| Pawl Switch |
|
||
| Luggage Door Courtesy Switch | The No. 1 luggage compartment assembly and No. 2 courtesy light assembly illuminates while this switch outputs an on signal (with the luggage compartment door open). | ||
| Position Detection Switch | The rotating position of the luggage door closer motor is detected through the on/off patterns of the position detection switch and their signals are transmitted to the power trunk lid ECU. | ||
| Luggage Door Closer Motor | Actuated by the signals from the multiplex network door ECU, the luggage door closer motor performs both the closer and opener functions. | ||
| Trunk Lid Open Switch | Detects whether the luggage compartment door is open or closed and transmits an applicable signal to the power trunk lid ECU. | ||
| Luggage Door Opening Cancel Switch |
|
||
| Luggage Door Opening Switch |
|
||
| Luggage Door Closer Switch | The luggage compartment door closes when this switch is turned on from outside of the vehicle. | ||
| Electrical Key Transmitter Sub-assembly | The luggage compartment door opens when the luggage compartment door opener button on the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is pressed from outside of the vehicle. | ||
| Luggage Electrical Key Switch |
|
||
| Certification ECU (Smart Key ECU Assembly) | In the wireless door lock function, if the luggage compartment door opener button on the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is pressed, the certification ECU transmits a signal to the power trunk lid ECU via the CAN (MS bus). | ||
| ECM | The ECM receives parking brake status signals from the parking brake ECU assembly via the CAN and then transmits the signals to the main body ECU via the CAN. | ||
| Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU | The hybrid vehicle control ECU transmits shift position signals (P position) to the main body ECU via the CAN. | ||
| Parking Brake ECU Assembly | The parking brake ECU assembly transmits parking brake status signals to the ECM via the CAN. | ||
| Combination Meter Assembly | The meter ECU transmits a vehicle speed signal to the power trunk lid ECU via the CAN (MS bus). | ||
| Main Body ECU (Driver Side Junction Block) | When the luggage door opening switch is pressed, the main body ECU transmits a signal to the power trunk lid ECU. | ||
OPERATING CONDITION
The operating conditions of the opener function are as follows:
The luggage door opening cancel switch is on.
The power switch is off or the shift lever is in P.
The vehicle speed is less than approximately 3 km/h (2 mph).
The brake pedal is pressed or the parking brake is engaged.
The electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is being held by the driver (when operating the luggage electrical key switch on the rear license garnish).
OPERATION
Opener Function
When any of the luggage door opening switch, luggage electrical key switch or the luggage compartment door opener button of the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is pressed for at least 1 second, the luggage closer motor assembly operates to unlock the trunk lid.
When the latch has been released by the operation of the luggage door closer assembly, the luggage closer motor assembly operates to rotate the trunk lid hinge via the ball joint type linkage, causing the luggage compartment door to fully open. The luggage compartment door stops at the fully open position.
If any of the luggage door opening switch, luggage electrical key switch or the luggage compartment door opener button of the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is pressed while the power trunk is in motion, the power trunk stops operating.
Closer Function
By pressing the luggage door closer switch located on the inner side of the luggage compartment door, the luggage closer motor assembly operates to rotate the trunk lid hinge via the ball joint type linkage, causing the luggage compartment door to close.
When the luggage compartment door is almost fully closed, the luggage door closer assembly operates to lock the latch.
If the luggage door closer switch is pressed while the luggage compartment door is closing, the luggage compartment door stops operating and then restarts to open the luggage compartment door.
Jam Protection Function
The power trunk lid ECU determines the jamming of the power trunk lid system upon receiving the signals from the Hall ICs.
The power trunk lid ECU determines the luggage compartment door movement distance and the luggage compartment door opening/closing speed (door foreign object jamming) via the pulse signals from the Hall IC, and the luggage compartment door position (door movement direction) from the phase difference between the pulses from Hall IC 1 and Hall IC 2.
If a foreign object gets jammed during opening or closing of the power trunk lid, the pulse width of the output signal from the Hall IC changes. The power trunk lid ECU interprets this as jamming, then stops the luggage closer motor assembly when the luggage compartment door is opening. If the luggage compartment door is closing, the ECU reverses the motor rotating direction.
DIAGNOSIS
When the power trunk lid ECU detects a malfunction, the power trunk lid ECU makes a diagnosis and memorizes the failed section.
The power trunk lid ECU also stores a 5-digit Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). The DTC can be accessed by using the Global TechStream (GTS).
