FUNCTION
The theft deterrent system has the following functions:
| Function | Outline |
|---|---|
| Alarm | When the theft deterrent system enters the alarm state, the warning items (hazard warning lights, vehicle horn, security horn*1 and self-power siren*2) are operated for approx. 27.5 seconds. |
| Security Indicator |
|
| Forced Door Lock*5 | The main body ECU transmits a door lock signal to all the doors when all of the following conditions are satisfied:
The function stops when one of the following conditions is met:
|
*1: Models with security horn
*2: Models with self-power siren
*3: Models with entry and start system
*4: Models without entry and start system
*5: Models with forced door lock
CONSTRUCTION
Intrusion Sensor
An intrusion sensor is provided in the map light assembly.
If the intrusion sensor detects an inappropriate entry into the vehicle interior by an intruder (including intrusions made by breaking window glass), a warning signal is sent to the main body ECU.
This sensor transmits ultrasonic waves in the vehicle interior. When an intruding object moves, it disrupts the reflection of the radio waves, and the sensor detects the resulting changes in the phase of the radio waves.
The intrusion sensor, which is linked to the auto alarm system, sets automatically when the system transfers to the armed state (and the setting of the auto alarm is completed).
When the intrusion sensor detects a moving object in the vehicle interior, the system transfers to the alarm state. Then, the system sounds the horn intermittently and blinks the hazard warning light for approximately 27.5 seconds and performs a forced locking operation.
Glass Print Pattern Type Glass Breakage Sensor
The main body ECU, print patterns on the rear door quarter window glass* and rear window defogger are connected in series, and when the main body ECU detects an open circuit, it determines that one of the windows has been broken.
*: 5-door models
When the main body ECU receives an open circuit signal from the print pattern or rear window defogger for approximately 400 msec while in the armed state, it determines that one of the windows has been broken and changes the system to the alarm state in order to activate an alarm.
Self-power Siren
During normal operation, this siren sounds an alarm in accordance with the operation signal from the main body ECU.
Because this siren has an internal battery, it can independently sound an alarm even if the vehicle's battery terminals are disconnected or if the wiring harnesses related to the system are cut.
Tilt Sensor (Yaw Rate Sensor)
The tilt sensor is incorporated in the yaw rate sensor located inside the front floor console.
The tilt sensor detects the pitch angle of vehicle inclination using the 2 deceleration sensors. When the tilt sensor detects a change in the pitch angle of vehicle inclination, such as that caused by a thief attempting to tow the vehicle, it transmits the warning signal to the main body ECU.
The main body ECU activates the tilt sensor when the system changes from the armed preparation state to the armed state. If a warning signal is input from the tilt sensor during the armed state, the ECU changes to the alarm state in order to output an alarm.
When the system is in the disarmed state, pressing the intrusion sensor cancel switch can disable the function of the tilt sensor. If the system changes to the armed state, the tilt sensor will not activate. This function is canceled each time all doors are unlocked with the entry and start system, and is reinstated when the tilt senor is on.
Tech Tips
Under the following conditions, if the vehicle tilts or if an increase in the vertical and horizontal movement of the vehicle is detected by the tilt sensor, an alarm may occur accidentally. To avoid accidental alarm activation, turn the tilt sensor off using the intrusion sensor cancel switch.
The vehicle is transported by ferry, trailer or train.
The vehicle is parked in a multi-story parking facility.
The vehicle is washed by a conveyor type car washing machine.
A tire has blown out.
The vehicle is jacked up for a tire or wheel change.
An earthquake occurs or the road subsides.
Equipment such as skis or snowboards are loaded or unloaded.
OPERATION
The states of the theft deterrent system are as follows:
| State | Description | Theft Detection |
|---|---|---|
| Disarmed State A (Engine hood or glass hatch is closed) | The theft deterrent system has not been set by the user. | Not possible |
| Disarmed State B (Engine hood or glass hatch is open) | ||
| Armed Preparation State | This is the preparation state before the theft deterrent system becomes active (enters the armed state) when the system has been set by the user. | Not possible |
| Armed State | The theft deterrent system is active. (Theft can be detected.) | Possible |
| Alarm State | A theft attempt has been detected and the warning operation activates. | Possible |
The theft deterrent system activates as shown in the diagram above when one of items in the chart occurs in order to cause the system to enter the respective state.
| Condition | Item |
