DIFFERENTIAL SYSTEM GENERAL

  1. OUTLINE

    1. The front differential uses the SD20B type.

    2. The rear differential uses the BD21B type.

    3. On the models with 1GR-FE or 1KD-FTV engine, the rear differential lock system is optionally provided as a set with the multi-terrain select.

    4. In the unlikely event that one of the rear wheels loses grip on a surface on which it is difficult to transmit drive torque (such as sand), the rear differential lock can connect the left and right rear wheels, thus ensuring the drive torque of the other wheel and assisting in freeing the vehicle in emergency situations.

    5. The 4WD control ECU actuates and controls the shift motor in the differential lock shift actuator. This causes the rear differential lock system to switch the rear differential between free and lock.

    6. The rear differential lock switch is used to switch the rear differential between free and lock.

    7. A low viscosity oil is used, also improving fuel consumption.
