REMOTE ENGINE STARTER SYSTEM GENERAL

  1. OUTLINE

    1. The remote engine starter system makes it possible to start the engine from outside the vehicle. It utilizes the vehicle's wireless transmitter, so there is no need to carry around an extra remote.

    2. The remote engine starter is operated by pushing the lock button in a quick, 2-step sequence. In addition, the remote engine starter can activate the heater or air conditioning if it was preset when the engine switch was turned off. This provides a comfortable cabin upon entry.

    3. Furthermore, the remote engine starter can also activate the defroster (if it was operating) to clear the windshield during cold weather.

    4. To ensure safety, and the safety of anyone near the vehicle, the remote engine starter is designed to shut the engine off if it detects any attempt to enter or move the vehicle after a remote engine start.

  2. PRECAUTION

    1. Do not start the engine in an enclosed area (such as a garage or indoor parking lot). Exhaust gasses may accumulate and create a hazardous environment with potential for Carbon Monoxide (CO) poisoning.

    2. Do not start the engine if a child or pet are present in or near the vehicle. Interior power components such as windows and seats might accidentally be operated, leading to injury.

    3. Do not check the engine while it is still warm after being remotely started. Allow at least five minutes for the engine to cool to avoid being burned.

    4. Do not start the engine near dry foliage, paper or other flammable substances. The exhaust pipe and emissions components can create a fire hazard at high temperatures.

    5. Do not use the remote engine starter system from a distance where the driver/operator is not near the vehicle.

    6. Always shut off components such as the windshield wipers after parking. If left on, such components may be damaged following a remote engine start in extremely cold weather. Check that all windows are closed and all doors locked after parking.

    7. Do not start the engine with a cover on the vehicle. The exhaust pipe and emissions components reach high temperatures and are capable of starting a fire.

    8. Only use the remote engine starter when the vehicle will be driven. Excessive engine starting consumes fuel and battery power.

    9. To help reduce the risk of injury during engine service, the remote engine starter does not function while the hood is open.

    10. The type of door control receiver used on this model differs according to the specifications of the vehicle. The expressions listed in the table below are used in this section.
