POWER WINDOW CONTROL SYSTEM DETAILS

  1. FUNCTION OF MAIN COMPONENTS

    1. The power window control system consists of the following parts:

      Component Function
Power Window Regulator Master Switch Assembly Allows the driver to operate the power window system for the driver's door. It also allows the driver to operate the power window systems for the front passenger door and rear passenger doors*.
Power Window Regulator Switch Assembly Located at each of the front passenger door and rear passenger doors*, this switch assembly allows the user to operate the power window system for the respective door.
Power Window Regulator Assembly Operates in accordance with the operation signals from the power window regulator master switch and the power window regulator switch to open and close and control the power window.

      • *: Models with rear power window control system

  2. FUNCTION

    1. The power window control system has the following functions:

      Function Outline
Manual Up-and-down This function causes the window to open or close while the power window regulator master switch assembly or power window regulator switch assembly is being pulled halfway up or pushed halfway down. The window stops as soon as the switch is released.
One-touch Auto Up-and-down The one-touch auto up-and-down function enables the window to be fully opened or closed at a touch of the power window regulator master switch assembly.
Jam Protection A jam protection function automatically stops the power window and moves it downward if a foreign object gets jammed in the window during one-touch auto-up operation.
Remote Control The up-and-down operations of the front passenger door and rear door windows can be controlled by operating the power window regulator master switch assembly.
Window Lock Power window operation of the 3 passenger windows is disabled when the window lock switch is pressed.
Key-off Operation The "key-off operation function" makes it possible to operate the power window for approx. 43 seconds after the ignition switch (engine switch*) is turned to ACC or off, if the front doors are not opened.

      • *: Models with entry and start system

  3. OPERATION

    1. Jam Protection Function

      1. The jam protection function automatically stops the power window and moves it downward if a foreign object gets jammed in the door window during one-touch auto-up operation.

      2. The reverse-direction conditions and amount of down movement after jam detection are as follows:

        • The jam protection function operates and lowers the window approximately 50 mm (1.9 in.). After this, if the amount (space) that the door glass is open has not reached approximately 200 mm (7.87 in.), the jam protection function will continue to lower the window until the space is approximately 200 mm (7.87 in.). If the door glass reaches the fully open position before the initial 50 mm (1.9 in.) lowering of the door glass is reached, the jam protection function will stop at that time.

      3. The worm gear and Hall IC in the power window motor assembly are used to enable power window jam protection.

      4. The Hall IC converts the changes in the magnetic flux that occur through the rotation of the worm gear into pulse signals and outputs them to the power window regulator master switch assembly or power window regulator switch assembly.

      5. To control the jam protection function, the power window regulator master switch assembly and power window regulator switch assembly determine the amount of movement and jamming of the window glass based on the pulse signals from the Hall IC. The switch assemblies judge the direction of the window glass movement based on the phase difference between the pulses from the Hall IC.

  4. FAIL-SAFE

    1. When the power window ECU detects the following conditions, it is switched to fail-safe mode. The power window illumination (LED) flashes to inform the user.

      1. An abnormality has occurred in the Hall IC that detects the position, speed and direction of the window.

      2. An error has occurred in the window detection position and the upper limit position recorded in the power window regulator master switch assembly.

  5. DIAGNOSIS

    1. If the Hall IC in the power window motor malfunctions, some power window functions will be prohibited for the fail-safe mode:

      1. All door one-touch auto up-and-down function and the remote control functions are prohibited.

      2. Manual operation is possible by using the power window regulator master switch assembly or each power window regulator switch assembly.
