CLUTCH SYSTEM GENERAL

  1. OUTLINE

    1. A dry type single plate clutch, operated by hydraulic pressure, is used.

    2. A Concentric Slave Cylinder (CSC) is used on the models with 1ZR-FAE and 2ZR-FAE engines.

    3. A self-adjusting type clutch cover is used on the models with 1AD-FTV, 2AD-FHV and 1WW engines.

  3. MAIN FEATURES

    1. Concentric Slave Cylinder (CSC)

      1. The release cylinder and the release bearing have been combined into one unit. Because of this, the conventional fork and support have been discontinued and it is now possible to directly push the bearing with oil pressure, thus achieving excellent clutch operation feeling and weight reduction.

      2. A clutch bleeder for air release is provided on the transaxle to ensure serviceability.

        A01ILYLE01
    2. Self-adjusting Type Clutch Cover

      1. This clutch cover maintains a constant diaphragm spring posture regardless of the amount of clutch disc wear. Consequently, a constant clutch pedal effort is maintained to ensure a comfortable clutch feel.

  4. PRECAUTION

    1. Clutch Cover and Clutch Disc (Self-adjusting Type)

      1. Make sure to replace the clutch cover whenever the clutch disc is replaced. If the clutch disc is replaced without replacing the clutch cover, a proper diaphragm spring posture cannot be attained, which could cause the clutch to slip and make it more difficult to operate the clutch.

    2. Concentric Slave Cylinder (CSC)

      1. The clutch release with bearing cylinder assembly cannot be disassembled.

      2. When the transaxle is removed from the engine, the piston with seal will move to the engine side and the piston seal may be damaged by foreign matter on the sliding surface. When the transaxle is removed from the engine, replace the clutch release with bearing cylinder assembly with a new one.

      3. The bolts that fasten the clutch release with bearing cylinder assembly to the transaxle are sealed bolts. When the bolts are removed, replace them with new ones.

      4. The clutch fluid should be replaced or inspected according to the Maintenance Schedule and Owner's Manual.
