Audio Head Unit
In consideration of the unity with the instrument panel, a uniquely sized audio head unit is provided.
A Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display (TFT LCD) is used for the multi-display of the Lexus display audio system and HDD navigation system, enabling operation of the audio screen, Bluetooth hands-free screen, vehicle information screen, etc. using the remote operation board*1 or remote touch*2.
Tech Tips
For details on the remote touch, refer to the navigation system/multi information system section. Click here
*1: Models with Lexus display audio system
*2: Models with HDD navigation system
Due to the change in the multi-display location, the remote operation board is used to ensure operability.
A sound library function that can compress music sound data using Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) compression technology and record the data to the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) is adopted.*
*: Destination package for China with HDD navigation system
Discs containing MPEG audio layer-3 (MP3) files and Windows Media Audio (WMA) files can be played.
Discs with the marks shown below can be played.
Digital Audio Broadcast (DAB) (Models for Europe and destination package for Australia with HDD Navigation System)
Digital Audio Broadcast (DAB) reception is available. This mostly prevents broadcast interference, achieving clear reception with high quality sound.
The time shift operation function can be used to play back programs at a later time.
Tech Tips
The amount of playback possible depends on the bit rate of the DAB station to be recorded, the amount of DAB unit memory, and the time at which reception of the broadcast began.
Automatic Sound Levelizer (ASL)
The Automatic Sound Levelizer (ASL) function automatically adjusts the audio system volume level in order to compensate for increased vehicle noise (vehicle noise tends to increase as vehicle speed increases).
Vehicle speed signals are received from the combination meter assembly and used for ASL control.
USB Audio System
A USB port is provided that enables operation of a USB memory device, portable audio player (USB type), iPhone, iPod, iPod classic, iPod nano or iPod touch.
Tech Tips
iPhone, iPod, iPod classic, iPod nano and iPod touch are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries.
The following iPod, iPod nano, iPod classic, iPod touch and iPhone devices can be used with this system.
iPod touch (4th generation)

The Bluetooth audio system enables users to enjoy music played on a portable player from the vehicle speakers via wireless communication.
The Bluetooth specifications and profiles required for operation are as follows:
| Specification / Profile | Version | |
|---|---|---|
| Bluetooth Specification | Version 1.1 or higher | Required |
| Version 2.1 + EDR or higher | Recommended | |
| Profile | Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) Version 1.0 or higher | Required |

| Audio/Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP) Version 1.0 or higher | Required | |
| Audio/Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP) Version 1.4 or higher | Recommended | |
Bluetooth Hands-free System
The Bluetooth hands-free system allows the user to make or receive a call without taking their hands off the steering wheel when the system is linked with a Bluetooth-compatible cellular phone.
| Specification / Profile | Version | |
|---|---|---|
| Bluetooth Specification | Version 1.1 or higher | Required |
| Version 2.1+EDR or higher | Recommended | |
| Profile | Hands Free Profile (HFP) Version 1.0 or higher | Required |

| Phone Book Access Profile (PBAP) Version 1.0 or higher | Required | |
| Message Access Profile (MAP) Ver.1.0 or higher* | Required | |
*: Models with HDD navigation system
Tech Tips
The operation of the interrupt call function of the Bluetooth hands-free system may vary with the Bluetooth phone or the telephone company that is used.
|
"Bluetooth" is a trademark owned by Bluetooth SIG, Inc. |
Some profiles described above may not be supported in the system depending on the audio head unit equipped.
If the specification of the connected Bluetooth phone is lower than the recommended or does not support the functions required, the available functions may be limited.
Registration and connection of a Bluetooth phone is not available when only Dial-up Networking Profile (DUN), Object Push Profile (OPP), Phone Book Access Profile (PBAP) and MAP (Message Access Profile) are supported.
When a Bluetooth phone is connected to the multi-media module receiver assembly, e-mails and Short Message Service (SMS) messages received on the phone can be displayed or read out. (Messages may not be displayed depending on the message service or profile that the connected Bluetooth phone supports.)
Bluetooth Hands-free System
The Bluetooth hands-free system allows the user to make or receive a call without taking their hands off the steering wheel when the system is linked with a Bluetooth-compatible cellular phone.
Bluetooth Audio System
The Bluetooth audio system enables users to enjoy music played on a portable player from the vehicle speakers via wireless communication.
Tech Tips
Portable players must correspond to the following specifications in order to be connected to the Bluetooth audio system. However, note that some functions may be limited depending on the type of portable player.
The following profiles must be supported:
Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) Version 1.0 or higher
Audio/Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP) Version 1.0 or higher (Preferred: Version 1.3 or higher)
Voice Recognition Search System
Due to the Grapheme to Phoneme (G2P) function of converting sounds into text, a song in the USB audio system can be searched for by saying an artist name, album name, title or playlist name.
Steering Pad Switch
Switches that the driver often uses are provided on the steering wheel for convenience.
Radio Antenna
A spoiler-integrated radio antenna system is adopted. The AM/FM main antennas and Digital Audio Broadcast (DAB)* antenna are built into the rear spoiler sub-assembly.

MAIN FEATURES
Remote Operation Board
Press the AUDIO button or MENU button on the remote operation board and start operation of the Lexus display audio system. An audio source such as radio and CD can be operated on the audio screen. The set up function of the Lexus display audio system, the telephone function, the air conditioning system, etc. can be operated on the menu screen.
Sound Library
Approximately 3000 tracks with a 5-minute track length average can be recorded to the HDD from audio discs using AAC encoding at 128 kbps (a maximum of 9999 tracks can be recorded if tracks with an average track length of less than 5 minutes are recorded or the tracks are encoded at less than 128 kbps).
Tracks from a CD are recorded at 4 times normal play speed.
Album, artist and title names for recorded tracks can be input or edited freely. These names can help you search for a track easily.
Tech Tips
Recording equipment should be used only for lawful copying. You are advised to carefully confirm what is lawful copying in the country in which you are making a copy.
Copying of copyright material such as films or music is unlawful unless permitted by a legal exception or consent granted by the owners of the rights to the content.
Rear Seat Entertainment System
A pair of 7-inch Video Graphics Array (VGA) monitors are adopted for the television system. In addition, Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) are used to provide mercury-free backlighting. This reduces the burden on the environment and ensures brightness.
Each television display assembly provided on the driver and front passenger seats can output different images and sounds. However, this is only for the combination of images and sounds input from AUX (VIDEO etc.) and images and sounds output from the multi-media module receiver assembly.
DVD and VIDEO source can be operated for the left and right display independently using the television switch and volume assembly. Firstly select the right or left display using the display select switch on the television switch and volume assembly and then operate DVD or VIDEO source.
A menu screen exclusive to the rear seat entertainment system is provided, enhancing operability of each content selection.
